As a Tax Planning Manager with Zillow Group’s Tax Team, you’ll be part of a collaborative, strategic group dedicated to solving complex tax challenges and supporting Zillow’s mission to help customers buy, sell, or rent their next home. This team plays a critical role in supporting business and strategic initiatives, and the Tax Planning Manager will contribute directly to that success.

About the role

As a Tax Planning Manager at Zillow Group, you will play a key role in managing, implementing, and automating processes on a variety of indirect tax issues.  You’ll collaborate across finance and business teams and make a direct impact on our business by driving operational excellence and supporting business and strategic initiatives.  

You Will Get To:

  • Partner with business lines to understand products and offerings and complete taxability analysis when needed

  • Review and maintain tax technology systems and documentation to reflect current products and offerings 

  • Enable and optimize tax technology functions to support business line growth and new initiatives

  • Conduct technical tax research and interpret tax authority guidance

  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities, including the use of AI and other technology tools

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.In California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $109,000.00 - $174,000.00 annually. This base pay range is specific to these locations and may not be applicable to other locations. In Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont the standard base pay range for this role is $103,500.00 - $165,300.00 annually. The base pay range is specific to these locations and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. Employees in this role will not be paid below the salary threshold for exempt employees in the state where they reside.

Who you are

  • 3+ years of tax work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, Masters in Tax or CPA preferred 

  • Advanced Excel skills required; strong modeling and data analytics capability

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to assess tax risk, draw conclusions, and develop clear recommendations

  • Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables in a fast‑paced, evolving environment while working independently with general guidance

  • Effective communicator who can explain complex tax concepts to non‑tax stakeholders and collaborate with external advisors

  • Curious, adaptable, and motivated to grow within a tax planning function

  • Indirect tax experience, a plus

  • Experience with Avalara, a plus
