When I was younger, my favorite inspirational quote was, “Aim for the Moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars”. Yet success is not about dreams but plans, progression, and realization of worldly goals.
I started to take my career goals more seriously. I would align my goals with the organizational goals and make sure I stay on the right track. To do so, I came up with the concept I named a one-on-one with myself, a self-reflective activity accompanied by a detailed document that categorizes my goals and weights all my tasks against those goals. As a result, whatever I do is well-planned, ruthlessly prioritized, and aligned with my personal goals.
Over the course of my career, I've learned it is important to give your career decisions and advancements the importance it deserves. More often than not, people get so involved in their day-to-day tasks that career talks and progressions become an afterthought. However, once you spend time with yourself and understand why you’re doing what you’re doing, your belief in the mission you have formed for yourself becomes more concrete. Luckily, you can make a few simple changes in your lifestyle to be more intentional about your career.
In this talk, I will share what my one-on-ones look like and why they are critical for my career growth. I will also answer questions and help you understand what you need to do with being international about your career growth.
