DEIB is a dynamic concept under the diversity umbrella that is constantly evolving and changing. With this in mind, how do we strive for DEIB when it is a moving target, particularly within the tech industry? In this talk with developer and community program manager Giuliana Polsoni, she’ll discuss what it means to work towards a more inclusive tech industry from the inside-out, from the work culture to the final product.

Bridget FinkeldeyVirgginnia is a DEI and talent acquisition professional based in the Bay Area with a proven record of building and improving processes that help companies find the right talent when they need it as well as coaching candidates on career and interviewing best practices. Her journey has given her a well-rounded background in acquiring talent across many industries, including tech, non-profit, government relations, and international organizations while keeping a DEI lens and contributing towards an equitable workforce. Her current mission is to positively disrupt and improve startups’ strategies in hiring to make them streamlined and comprehensive, as well as including Diversity and Inclusion practices to empower companies with top-notch talent from underrepresented communities. This mission encouraged her to pursue many ventures from becoming a founding partner at a talent tech company, to being an advisor to Dreamers In Tech, to public speaking to empower under-represented groups, and especially women on getting to the salary they deserve, interview, and career coaching, as well as advising companies on the importance of under-represented communities and women in Tech. Virgginnia has a business administration and political science background, and in her free time she enjoys surfing, yoga, and hiking with her Goldendoodle puppy.

Through this journey, he identifies that although Filipinos have strong roots in Asia, their cultural characteristics (such as religion and last names) intersect with Latinos. In this discussion, we'll understand how Filipino Americans break the rules of race—welcoming all sociologists interested in learning more about identity and culture!

Bridget FinkeldeyAnthony Ocampo, Ph.D. is Professor of Sociology at Cal Poly Pomona and a Ford Foundation Fellow. He is the author of The Latinos of Asia: How Filipino Americans Break the Rules of Race. Dr. Ocampo’s research and commentaries on race and immigration have been featured on NPR Morning Edition, NPR Codeswitch, Public Radio International, Colorlines, GQ, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The San Francisco Chronicle. His latest book Brown and Gay in LA: Queer Sons of Immigrants Coming of Age is coming out in Summer of 2022.

Michele studied Public and Finance Administration; however, she never acted in such an area. Fascinated with social and political matters, she loves working with services. At Autodesk, she started as Channel Specialist, then Client Services, and now she is part of the Digital Inside Sales team. From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, singer and guitarist Michele is proud to say she was born and grew up in the Rocinha favela, where she draws much of her musical motivation and appreciation. While she draws inspiration from several artists, Elis Regina and Rosa Passos have influenced her work the most. Her vocal repertoire includes Samba, Bossa Nova, Brazilian Pop & Rock, MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), Choro, and Forró, but she also plays various Brazilian percussion instruments. Michele loves exploring the Colorado music scene and sharing her culture and music with a new public.
