Job Title: Senior Director, Programming & Development, Tech & Other Brands
Overview:
Condé Nast Entertainment (CNE) is looking for a seasoned programming strategist and creative leader to oversee its award-winning digital video programming and development for the Tech brands (Wired and Ars Technica). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of overseeing development and production in digital (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, FAST, etc.) and evaluating digital content in a variety of genres of relevance to CNE’s audience as well as a strong understanding of what kinds of content will be engaging to large and diverse audiences.
The person in this role will be a strategic partner and liaison across the Condé Nast ecosystem, including Commercial, Consumer, Editorial, and CNE organizations.
Expectations for editorial quality, audience growth and monetization are extremely high, developed and delivered in the forms of:
Original content for global digital platforms (e.g. O&O, TikTok, Instagram, FAST), with focus on premium, scalable quality across YouTube
Syndicated series for local markets and OTT channels around the world
Video franchises that transcend platforms and markets
Video support of live cultural events if applicable
The position is a part of Conde Nast Entertainment based in New York, and will report to CNE’s VP, Digital Video English, Tech and New Development.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead, shape, and implement the programming strategy and vision for CNE’s multi-faceted video slate for Wired and Ars Technica (Tech brands), using data and analysis for evaluating video content.
Drive storytelling development and execution, bringing fresh perspective to the slate of content across the Tech brands and other brands, as applicable.
Oversee the development process from start to finish - lead brainstorming sessions, work with your Development team to generate ideas for new pilots and preexisting series, and execute on creating profitable IP from pre-production to post production.
Serve as the primary video liaison across Condé Nast’s Editorial, Commercial, Consumer, and Business Affairs.
Oversee team of programming and development professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and leadership throughout the video lifecycle.
Build a positive, success-oriented environment and serve as a leader that promotes creativity, innovation and furthers CNE’s best in class premium video reputation, leveraging a foundation of existing successful formats and IP while also exploring new digital video frontiers.
Partner with Digital Video English (DVE) Tech Production team to ensure maximum quality of content is achieved and maintained.
Drive CNE business goals through a strategic integrated programming calendar with a wide variety of digital video-led ideas - from large-scale production to nimble concepts, packaged for US commercial and/or consumer revenue business models.
Increase the volume and variety of our digital video content across multiple platforms, leveraging a firm understanding of digital metrics and data analytics.
Partner with brand Editorial teams to develop video programming concepts for live events (e.g. festivals, anniversary celebrations, and other cultural moments) that drive both audience engagement and revenue.
Establish and upkeep processes that ensure creative excellence, including working closely with DVE Production and Operations teams to establish workflows from inception to execution that deliver quality and exceptional storytelling, consistent communication, swift decision making, efficient budgeting, scheduling and deadline enforcement
Review, edit, and approve preliminary and final treatments, outlines, shooting scripts, casting, production schedules, budgets, selects, graphics, music, rough cuts, fine cuts, final narration and final versions of all applicable new programming.
Conduct regular checks on current shows and make recommendations on representation, inclusion and creative direction.
Ensure the pipeline of new content is well maintained, and that archival content is effectively resurfaced.
Work closely with Content Planning and Analysis, Creative Optimization, and Audience Development teams to manage and monitor video channel health, understand and engage existing fans, and support development of content that appeals to new viewers and advertisers.
Partner with CNE Global Creative Services, Integrated Planning, and Global Branded Entertainment teams to establish workflows for programming plan reviews and creative collaboration, with the goal of creating commercial packages to maximize revenue opportunities.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
A minimum of 10+ years experience producing, developing, and/or programming video content on various platforms including, digital, linear, etc.
Excellent track record of growing audience, overseeing creative execution, developing brand appropriate digital content for programming and sustained critical success
Demonstrated experience in building a culture of trust and inclusion
Proven ability to operate, balancing long-term value with near-term business goals, with the ability to manage heavy workload and prioritize appropriately
Knowledge of internet culture and digital video landscape (e.g. YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, FAST), the unique elements of each video platform and what makes particular videos successful on those platforms.
Demonstrated ability to generate multiple revenue streams driven from content
Proven ability to proactively identify and implement effective solutions to problems and to create infrastructure
Proven experience managing a team of creative producers and juggling multiple-projects at once
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Successful experience navigating matrixed organizations
Creative and strategic executive who is genuinely collaborative and ready to lead
Strong creative with tactical skills; expert level knowledge around multi-platform distribution and deep knowledge of all stages of the production and distribution process
Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) with an emotionally intelligent communication style
Demonstrated aptitude to work closely with both internal and external producers to represent the channel needs
Ability to partner and manage Brand team and Brand needs
Base Pay Range: $125,000 - $175,000
