We are seeking an experienced IPIT lawyer (Avocat) to join the Practical Law team and be based in France.

As a Senior Specialist Legal Editor, you will use your technical expertise and substantial experience as a practising lawyer (Avocat) in IPIT law and practice in France to create and maintain insightful and customer-focused content for online publication, and to support the development of Thomson Reuters AI-powered legal solutions. Working in a supportive team of highly experienced colleagues, you will deal with a breadth of interesting work.

About the Role

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Working with your Director, you are responsible for:

  • Researching, writing and maintaining clear, current, and practical legal content aligned with market practice and customer needs, and business objectives.
  • Reviewing and editing content written by others, whether by colleagues or external expert contributors.
  • Keeping up to date with legal, practice and market developments to ensure content remains accurate, relevant and aligned with business objectives.
  • Using your legal expertise to support the development of customer-focused Thomson Reuters' AI-powered legal solutions.
  • Using your legal expertise and editorial skills to support the development and application of internal AI editorial tools.
  • Ensuring that you develop and maintain an excellent understanding of the legal market, our customers and their emerging needs, and competitors. This includes:
    • interacting effectively with customers, consultation boards and contributors; and
    • working with all parts of the business to deliver insight into business strategies, other products, sales, marketing, and technology development.  
  • Attending training events, conferences and talks and otherwise networking with customers and potential customers and with industry leaders.
  • Helping with the development of Practical Law France and, more generally with the development of Practical Law.
  • Using your specialist legal knowledge to assist the wider Thomson Reuters team, working with product management, sales, marketing, and technology functions where necessary.

About You

Mandatory Skills and Experience:

You're a fit for the role if you are a French qualified lawyer (Avocat) with excellent writing and communication skills in English and have:

  • At least 5 years' post-qualification experience working as an IP and/or IT lawyer (Avocat) in a law firm or in-house in France.
  • Substantial experience of French IP and/or IT law. 
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English, and a passion for writing about legal practice accurately, concisely and in plain English.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively independently and in teams.
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to effectively utilise various tools, including generative AI technologies, to enhance productivity and accuracy.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work on diverse projects and tasks within the generative AI space as well as new and emerging technologies.
  • A curious mindset, including about the increasing intersection of AI and legal practice, adaptable and open to change.
  • Experience of using AI tools in legal work.
  • Excellent knowledge of online research databases.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and in a matrixed environment and proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with diverse teams of people who bring different perspectives and lived experiences to the business.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient translation skills to effectively translate legal documentation from French to English and vice versa.

Education/Certification Required:

  • Must be French bar qualified.

Principales responsabilités et missions

En collaboration avec votre Directrice, vous serez notamment responsable de :

  • Rechercher, rédiger et maintenir des contenus juridiques clairs, à jour et pratiques, alignés sur les pratiques du marché et les besoins des clients, ainsi que sur les objectifs de l'entreprise.
  • Relire, réviser et éditer des contenus rédigés par d'autres, qu'il s'agisse de collègues ou de contributeurs experts externes.
  • Assurer une veille des évolutions juridiques, pratiques et de marché afin de garantir l'exactitude, la pertinence et l'alignement des contenus avec les objectifs de l'entreprise.
  • Mettre votre expertise juridique au service du développement de solutions juridiques de Thomson Reuters orientées client et fondées sur l'IA.
  • Mettre votre expertise juridique et vos compétences éditoriales au service du développement et de l'utilisation d'outils internes d'édition assistée par l'IA.
  • Veiller à développer et maintenir une excellente compréhension du marché juridique, de nos clients, de leurs besoins émergents et de la concurrence. Cela inclut :
    • interagir efficacement avec les clients, les comités consultatifs et les contributeurs ; et
    • collaborer avec l'ensemble des équipes de l'entreprise afin d'apporter des éclairages sur les stratégies, les autres produits, les ventes, le marketing et le développement technologique.

Compétences et expérience requises

Vous correspondez au profil si vous êtes avocat(e) qualifié(e) en France, avec d'excellentes compétences rédactionnelles et de communication en anglais, et si vous disposez :

  • D'au moins 5 ans d'expérience post-qualification en tant qu'avocat(e) en propriété intellectuelle et/ou droit des technologies de l'information (PI et/ou IT) en cabinet ou en entreprise, en France.
  • D'une expérience solide en droit français de la PI et/ou de l'IT.
  • D'excellentes compétences en rédaction et communication en anglais, et d'un goût prononcé pour la rédaction sur la pratique du droit de manière exacte, concise et en anglais clair.
  • D'un état d'esprit collaboratif, avec la capacité de travailler efficacement de façon autonome et en équipe.
  • De solides compétences techniques et de la capacité à utiliser efficacement divers outils, y compris des technologies d'IA générative, afin d'améliorer la productivité et la précision.
  • De l'adaptabilité et de la flexibilité pour travailler sur des projets et missions variés dans le domaine de l'IA générative, ainsi que sur des technologies nouvelles et émergentes.
  • D'un esprit curieux, notamment vis-à-vis de l'intersection croissante entre IA et pratique juridique, adaptable et ouvert au changement.
  • D'une expérience de l'utilisation d'outils d'IA dans le cadre de travaux juridiques.
  • D'une excellente connaissance des bases de données de recherche en ligne.

  • De bonnes compétences en traduction, permettant de traduire efficacement des documents juridiques du français vers l'anglais et inversement.
