Job Details

We are seeking a Senior Applied AI Engineer to partner closely with the CTO to design, develop, and implement applied AI solutions—including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), LLM orchestration, and safe agentic workflows—and drive the AI-first transformation of our product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the design and development of applied AI systems, including RAG pipelines, LLM integrations, and APIs
  • Ensure safe and reliable AI outputs through implementation of guardrails, monitoring, and evaluation
  • Rapidly prototype AI solutions and scale them to production with maintainable code
  • Mentor engineers on AI best practices and safe adoption
  • Collaborate with product and engineering leadership on project timelines and scope for AI initiatives
  • Make effective trade-offs between technical debt and short-term value delivery
  • Run experiments and prototypes to assess tools and prospective features
  • Set standards and best practices for using AI to deliver high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into features and applications
  • Contribute to foundational AI capabilities, such as RAG/vector-database solutions and agentic workflow solutions
  • Continuously improve AI solutions through monitoring, analytics, and user feedback
  • Develop solutions for evaluating AI performance across models and prompts
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to AI implementations
  • Mentor and guide other engineers in adopting and using AI appropriately
  • Research and assess the latest AI advances to support innovation
  • Contribute to comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, and continuous integration testing
  • Develop and maintain documentation of AI solutions, processes, and best practices
  • Support production operations by participating in technical support and release duty rotations

You’re a great fit if you:

  • Have a minimum of 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years of hands-on applied AI/LLM experience
  • Are highly proficient in Python and modern AI frameworks (such as LangChain and vector databases)
  • Have experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and API-based LLM integration
  • Have deployed evaluation frameworks for LLMs and understand performance, reliability, and bias assessment
  • Possess a strong understanding of AI risks and mitigation approaches
  • Are familiar with coding workflows using AI
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset
  • Communicate effectively for cross-functional collaboration
  • Have experience leading complex projects and providing technical leadership
  • Can mentor and guide other engineers
  • Are passionate about continuous learning and staying current with AI trends and advances

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of AI security principles and best practices
  • Experience with frontend design principles and user experience (UX) considerations
  • Exposure to cloud-native development and containerization
  • Exposure to agile development methodologies
  • Prior work in healthcare or regulated domains

Total Compensation

The starting salary for this position is $160,000–$180,000.

Additional benefits include:

  • Remote work environment
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits within 30 days of hire
  • Retirement savings account with matching company contributions
  • Mental health benefits
  • 15 days paid vacation, with two additional days for each subsequent year (up to a maximum of 25 days)
