We are seeking a Senior Applied AI Engineer to partner closely with the CTO to design, develop, and implement applied AI solutions—including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), LLM orchestration, and safe agentic workflows—and drive the AI-first transformation of our product and engineering teams.
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead the design and development of applied AI systems, including RAG pipelines, LLM integrations, and APIs
- Ensure safe and reliable AI outputs through implementation of guardrails, monitoring, and evaluation
- Rapidly prototype AI solutions and scale them to production with maintainable code
- Mentor engineers on AI best practices and safe adoption
- Collaborate with product and engineering leadership on project timelines and scope for AI initiatives
- Make effective trade-offs between technical debt and short-term value delivery
- Run experiments and prototypes to assess tools and prospective features
- Set standards and best practices for using AI to deliver high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into features and applications
- Contribute to foundational AI capabilities, such as RAG/vector-database solutions and agentic workflow solutions
- Continuously improve AI solutions through monitoring, analytics, and user feedback
- Develop solutions for evaluating AI performance across models and prompts
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to AI implementations
- Mentor and guide other engineers in adopting and using AI appropriately
- Research and assess the latest AI advances to support innovation
- Contribute to comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, and continuous integration testing
- Develop and maintain documentation of AI solutions, processes, and best practices
- Support production operations by participating in technical support and release duty rotations
You’re a great fit if you:
- Have a minimum of 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years of hands-on applied AI/LLM experience
- Are highly proficient in Python and modern AI frameworks (such as LangChain and vector databases)
- Have experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and API-based LLM integration
- Have deployed evaluation frameworks for LLMs and understand performance, reliability, and bias assessment
- Possess a strong understanding of AI risks and mitigation approaches
- Are familiar with coding workflows using AI
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset
- Communicate effectively for cross-functional collaboration
- Have experience leading complex projects and providing technical leadership
- Can mentor and guide other engineers
- Are passionate about continuous learning and staying current with AI trends and advances
Preferred qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of AI security principles and best practices
- Experience with frontend design principles and user experience (UX) considerations
- Exposure to cloud-native development and containerization
- Exposure to agile development methodologies
- Prior work in healthcare or regulated domains
Total Compensation
The starting salary for this position is $160,000–$180,000.
