Department Profile

The Fixed Income Division is comprised of Interest Rate and Currency Products, Credit Products and Distribution. Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities, and structure as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets. The Flow Rates Division is a market leader in Interest Rates Derivatives trading worldwide whose professionals trade in both exchange traded and OTC derivatives.

Background on the Team

The Flow Rates London and Paris desks, trades IR derivatives in the European markets.

Primary Responsibilities

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Desk Strat (Desk Quant) to join the Fixed Income Macro trading desk, supporting interest rate swaps trading across European markets. The role will be based in Mumbai and will work closely with the trading desks in London and Paris.

This position sits within the Desk Strat team, responsible for delivering quantitative tools, analytics, and automation to support trading, risk management, and desk operations.

The successful candidate will combine strong quantitative skills, solid fixed income product knowledge, and software engineering capability to build scalable solutions for the trading desk.

Successful candidate must be a result-oriented problem solver, who can pick required math, technical and finance knowledge as needed.

Responsibilities

Trading Desk Support

  • Provide quantitative and analytical support to the Fixed Income Macro trading desk.

  • Investigate and resolve P&L and risk-related queries from traders and risk managers.

  • Assess pricing model limitations, and analyze effectiveness of existing risk models.

  • Maintain and enhance Python-based analytics and reporting tools used by the desk.

Development & Automation

  • Design and develop tools to support risk analysis, P&L attribution, and trading analytics.

  • Build and maintain desk infrastructure using Python and Scala/C++.

  • Automate routine desk workflows such as model change analysis, risk reporting, and operational processes.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with traders, quants, and technology teams across London, Paris, and Mumbai.

  • Contribute to improving desk infrastructure, reliability, and efficiency.

Skills desired

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in a Desk Strat, Quant, or Front Office Technology role supporting trading desks.

  • Experience in Fixed Income or FX markets is strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Sciences

  • Master's degree in Financial Engineering, Computational Engineering, or a related field of study( Math / Physics / Computer Science ) is a plus.

Financial Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of pricing and modelling of linear fixed income products, including:

    • Interest Rate Swaps (IRS)

    • Cross Currency Swaps (CCS)

    • Bonds

  • Understanding of P&L attribution and risk drivers for fixed income products.

  • Exposure to non-linear derivatives (options) is a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Strong programming skills in Python (required).

  • Experience with data analysis libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, SciPy) is preferred.

  • Experience with Scala or JVM-based languages is a plus.

  • Experience building robust, testable production code in a financial environment.
