DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

We are looking for a talented Electrical Qualification Agent to join our team specializing in quality, inspection, and safety for our location in Detroit, MI , or other major metropolitan areas within the state. This role requires 90% or more travel and plays a critical part in ensuring compliance, safety, and operational excellence across electrical installations and services.

As an Electrical Qualification Agent, you will be responsible for inspecting new electrical installations, reviewing plans, issuing and pulling permits, educating stakeholders, enforcing codes and standards, and maintaining compliance records. You will act as a qualification agent for electrical systems, including medium/high and low voltage power systems, generator installations, EV charger installations, loadbank testing, marine power generation, hydrolyzers, and fuel cells. This position requires maintaining a current Master Electrician license (or equivalent) in your home state and obtaining reciprocity licenses for other states as needed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Driving Electrical Safety and Compliance: Ensure all electrical work performed by Cummins employees or subcontractors complies with NEC and state regulations. Conduct site visits, perform safety audits, and confirm adherence to compliance standards.
  • Managing Permits and Documentation: Obtain and manage electrical permits for all jobsite activities across multiple states and municipalities. Review design criteria, specifications, and documentation to ensure compliance with NEC/NFPA70e codes.
  • Supporting Technician Development: Monitor and maintain technician trainee cards, hours, and continuing education requirements to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Collaborating Across Teams: Work closely with PEM/PM/Data Center and Start & Test teams to align schedules with permitting requirements. Participate in electrical safety meetings and foster a culture of safety and teamwork.
  • Maintaining Regulatory Relationships: Build and sustain working relationships with state, city, and local agencies to ensure smooth operations and compliance.

In this role you will make an impact in the following ways:

Objective 1: Create a Better Work Environment

  • Safety
  • OSHA Recordable Rate: Contribute towards the journey to “safety interdependence” by watching out for myself and my peers supporting the goal of working injury free.
  • Find It Fix It: Actively participate in the “Find It Fix It” program completing targets each month.
  • Q1-Q2 Target is 4 per month.
  • Q3-Q4 Target is 8 per month.
  • Safety Six: Ensure compliance with safety six (safety glasses, cut resistant gloves, safety shoes, LOTO, wheel chocks, quality JSA).
  • Incident Reporting. Ensure all incidents (Near Miss / Property Damage) as well as concerns of injury are reported immediately leveraging Axiom for injuries as appropriate.
  • JSO: Participate in the JSO process by completing at least two JSO per month achieving ≥ 4.0 quality.
  • JSA: Develop a working knowledge of the ANVL tool to support service techs through the JSA process.
  • Cleanliness/Housekeeping: Maintain a clean working environment.
  • Toolbox Talks: Actively participate in weekly toolbox talks.
  • Compliance Training: Ensure Annual Compliance Training for my position is completed.
  • Safety Meetings: Support and actively participate in monthly safety meetings.
  • Employee Engagement
  • Organizational Health: Participate in employee surveys educating myself on priority practices and how they apply in my role. Support programs my site executes to drive improvement in organizational health.
  • Investing in our Communities and Planet
  • EEEC: Participate in at least one event scheduled in my location this year.
  • Planet 2050: Facilitate/Support all eco-funded projects and complete at least one eco-efficiency project supporting Planet 2050 in every location in my area.

Objective 2: Improve Customer Experience (Service Delivery, Growth, Profitability)

  • NPS: Support improvement in Service NPS scores to ≥ 75% by:
  • Welcome customers professionally by greeting them or answering the phone as quickly as possible.
  • Contribute to customer retention by addressing customer concerns before the interaction has ended.
  • Support a high level of Customer Excellence by responding to email and phone messages in a timely manner.
  • Support General Manager by highlighting Net Promoter Score data/feedback during monthly Parts/Service Department team meetings by looking at individual work orders / OEs for compliance and learning from them.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with customers and employees & Washington Labor & Industries Organization.
  • Analyze and streamline processes to improve efficiency and avoid missteps.
  • Establish a process to maintain organized and effective files.

Objective 3: Support a Leadership Culture that Ignites Teamwork

Objective 4: Day to Day functions of the role

  • Primary duties include inspecting new electrical installations, reviewing plans, issuing permits, educating stakeholders, enforcing codes and standards, and maintaining compliance records. They will also assist with electrical safety and in investigating incidents.
  • Hold a current State electrical license with required hours and continuing education credits.
  • Hold or be willing to apply for a reciprocity electrical license for any applicable reciprocal states. Area of responsibility will include primary home state as well as reciprocal states.
  • Act as a qualification agent of Electrical systems, including medium(high) and low voltage power systems in a variety of environments:
  • Generator installations and service
  • Electric vehicle charger installation and service
  • Loadbank testing
  • Marine power generation
  • Hydrolyzers
  • Understand and be ready to carry out the duties of a qualification agent which include the following:
  • Ensure that all electrical work performed by Cummins employees complies with the electrical installation rules and laws of the state.
  • Ensure that all electrical safety procedures are utilized. Perform site visits, perform JSO and confirm electrical safety compliance is being adhered to.
  • Ensure that all electrical labors, permits, and licenses required to perform electrical tests are used and we are following all state electrical laws and regulations. Permits may need be purchased in person. Obtain electrical permits for all State and or local activities and reciprocity states as required.
  • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to qualification.
  • Qualification agent is responsible for technicians to keep trainee cards up to date.
  • Hours for our technicians to qualify for electrical tests will be monitored and submitted to the state by the qualification agent.
  • Qualification agent will ensure the techs are renewing their trainee cards and completing the education courses to stay in compliance. Hours of electrical work as defined and approved. 32 hours of in person continuing education required for renewal.
  • If required, make note in job story that inspection has been completed or attach a virtual screenshot of the confirmation e-mail in Cummins operations systems.
  • Maintain a working relationship with the State Department of Industrial Relations (if required).
  • Maintain any State compliance with confidence testing requirements.
  • Work with Electrical Safety Coordinator and participate in electrical safety meetings as required with all Power Generation Techs and Electric Vehicle Techs to ensure all technicians are up to date on the latest state requirements and drive an improved safety culture.
  • Understand if we need a specific license(s) to do business in individual cities or municipalities.
  • Work with the PEM/PM teams to ensure schedules align with permits.
  • Work with the start and test team on permitting and compliance for any testing.
  • Attend meetings as required, both virtual and in-person.
  • Other duties as assigned or required for the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Primary duties include inspecting new electrical installations, reviewing plans, issuing/pulling permits, educating stakeholders, enforcing codes and standards, and maintaining compliance records. QA’s will also assist with driving electrical safety and in investigating incidents.
  • Maintain and keep current Master Electrician license, equivalent master license, or other required licenses in QA’s home state as well as any reciprocal states as required by or requested by Cummins. Maintain proper hours of work and any associated continuing education credits.
  • Hold or be willing to apply for a reciprocity electrical license for any applicable reciprocal states. Area of responsibility will include primary home state as well as reciprocal states.
  • Act as qualification agent of Electrical systems, including medium (high) and low voltage power systems in a variety of environments:
  • Generator Installations and Service

  • Ensure that all electrical work performed by Cummins employees or subcontractors of Cummins complies with NEC and the electrical installation rules and laws of the State.
  • Regularly travel and perform site visits for checklist review, perform JSO’s, electrical safety audits, and confirm that all work is being performed within compliance and safety rules.
  • Ensure that all electrical labors, permits, and licenses required to perform electrical testing, installation, repair, or commissioning have been pulled, in place, and displayed accordingly. Review to ensure that Cummins or any Cummins subcontractors are adhering to all NEC and State electrical laws/regulations.
  • Obtain electrical permits for all Cummins or jobsite activities from any State, city, and or local municipalities. Permits would be the responsibility of the QA and managed in both the QA’s home state as well as any reciprocity states. Permits may need be pulled/purchased in person.
  • Work with the PEM/PM/Data Center and Start & Test teams to ensure the proper permitting has been obtained for upcoming work.
  • Review design criteria, specification, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation to ensure it meets NEC/NFPA70e codes and qualifications.
  • Qualification agent in some states may be responsible to keep technician trainee cards up to date. Hours for Cummins technicians to qualify for electrical tests will be monitored and submitted to the state by the agent will ensure the techs are renewing their trainee cards and completing the education courses to stay in compliance. If required by the State, make notes in job story that a QA inspection has been completed and/or attach a virtual screenshot of e-mail in Cummins operations systems.
  • Maintain a working relationship with any State, City, or local municipality agencies as required.
  • Maintain any State, City, or local or loadbanking requirements as required.
  • Work with Electrical Safety Coordinators and participate in electrical safety meetings as required with all Power Generation Techs and Electric Vehicle Techs to ensure that all technicians are up to date on the latest regulations and requirements.
