Job Description

Position Summary:

The Director, Corporate Social Media leads all corporate social media efforts, including AbbVie’s corporate social media channels and global social media policy governance. The Director is responsible for defining success in social and driving results that support, promote and protect AbbVie’s strategic business objectives and reputation. This role partners cross-functionally to foster a “social-first” mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a high-performing team that delivers expertise in social media, including social media strategy, content development and community management, ensuring consistent brand application to achieve AbbVie’s strategic business objectives and reputation goals.
  • Act as a member of the Corporate Marketing Leadership Team, collaborating to drive fully integrated strategies that build awareness and favorability of AbbVie.
  • Provide oversight of monitoring and moderation of corporate channels, ensuring that the response plan supports our communication goals and complies with pharmacovigilance policy.
  • Own the global social media policy, partnering cross-functionally to ensure the policy mitigates risk while also supporting enterprise business objectives.
  • Oversee corporate paid social planning including development of objectives, strategies and campaign recommendations. Manage external agency to ensure campaigns are effective and executed without error. Manage advertising budget, ensuring investments are prudent and strategic.
  • Drive employee advocacy efforts on social media through strategic implementation of AbbVie’s advocacy tool and tailored trainings and resources.
  • Act as a thought leader in social media for the company, identifying and anticipating changes and opportunities by keeping abreast of evolving platforms, technologies and trends. Co-lead the Social Media Center of Excellence to collaborate on decisions that impact social media activity across the enterprise.
  • Approach social media activities with a global mindset, partnering with affiliates around the world to activate in a strategic, consistent and compliant way.
  • Develop processes to “upskill” content producers (both internal and agencies) and reviewers to drive consistent, effective and compliant use of social media.
  • Accountable for the Social Media Resource Center, ensuring it fits the needs of employees and the business.
  • Own social media crisis management protocol in coordination with Corporate Communications.
  • Manage direct reports – guiding them in their development plans and annual goals. Provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Proactively share metrics, insights and opportunities to track cross-channel activities and assess impact on the business.
  • Own vendor relationships as well as an annual budget.

This is a hybrid role base in Lake County, IL


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field.
  • 15+ years of social media experience in large, matrixed organizations or agencies; pharmaceuticals/regulated industries preferred.
  • Proven experience leading social media component of integrated/omnichannel campaigns.
  • Strong ability to translate external social media trends into inspiration and direction for teams and agencies.
  • An inspirational leader with a proven track record of coaching, mentoring and developing high performing teams.
  • Significant experience managing and directing agencies, consultancies, and solutions partners.
  • Experience partnering with media agencies to build, evaluate, and optimize paid social media strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and apply research and measurement plans that inform strategy and communicate impact.
  • Strong creative and strategic judgment with experience evaluating and directing high-level creative work.
  • Exceptional influence, collaboration, and communication skills in matrixed global environments.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; able to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. ​

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​
