The copy editor reviews books, magazines, comics, and promotional materials for the Disney Press, Lucasfilm Press, and Disney Editions imprints at all stages, from manuscript to proof.

This role is located on-site in Orlando, Florida


Responsibilities :
  • Copyedits short manuscripts (readers, picture books, chapter books, short stories, magazines, comics) and longer manuscripts (middle grade and young adult novels, coffee table books) to ensure sense, continuity, quality of grammar, spelling, and style, and accuracy and consistency of text and art.
  • Creates style sheets for series and longer books.
  • Performs proofreading at all book stages to check that changes and corrections have been executed as requested. Copyedits new material created at later stages, such as added or rewritten text, captions, and indexes.
  • Identifies and communicates bookmaking problems and further corrections needed.
  • Reviews jackets, covers, and promotional materials as assigned.
  • Fact-checks information such as dates, names, and quotations.
  • Checks prices, bar codes, and other specifications against company database.
  • Consults with managing editors, editors, and the legal department on matters regarding copyrights and trademarks.


Basic Qualifications :
  • 3+ years copyediting experience, with books, magazines or newspapers
  • Exceptional copyediting and proofreading skills, as well as proficiency in editing with electronic tools, such as Microsoft Word Track Changes and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Attention to detail, commitment to follow-up, and diplomatic communication skills.
  • Ability to focus under pressure of tight deadlines and to juggle multiple projects with flexibility as to specific needs.
  • In-depth knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition and comfort working with a house style and individual franchise guidelines and nomenclature.
  • College-level understanding of literature, grammar, style, and spelling.
  • Affinity for children’s books and/or Disney properties highly desirable.
