Lead Software Engineer

Are you passionate about creating exceptional user experiences and leading teams to deliver cutting-edge web applications?

We’re looking for a UI/UX Frontend Developer Lead to join our dynamic team in Toronto. In this role, you’ll guide and mentor talented developers while shaping visually engaging, responsive interfaces that delight users. You’ll work with Angular and our proprietary Saffron framework, ensuring pixel-perfect design, accessibility, and best practices across all projects.

About the Role

In this opportunity Lead Software Engineer, you will:

· Lead and mentor frontend developers, promoting best practices and high coding standards.

· Guide the team in adopting and utilizing AI-powered tools and workflows for:

  • Code generation and refactoring (e.g., AI-assisted coding tools)
  • Automated testing and bug detection using AI-based test frameworks.
  • Design-to-code conversion from tools like Figma using AI accelerators.
  • Performance optimization through AI-driven analysis and recommendations.

· Design, develop, and deliver scalable, performant web applications using Angular.

· Convert UI/UX designs (e.g., Figma) into pixel-perfect, interactive interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

· Build and maintain custom Angular components and leverage internal design systems.

· Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend teams to define and implement features.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Lead Software Engineer if you have the following required qualifications:

· 7+ years of professional experience in frontend development, with strong expertise in Angular (v9+).

· Proficiency in TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, and CSS (Sass/Less).

· Experience translating UI/UX designs into high-fidelity, responsive interfaces.

· Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Design and Programming principles.

· Hands-on experience with Git, Node.js, and npm/yarn.

· Knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices.

· Demonstrated experience in using AI tools or frameworks to improve development workflows or enhance UI/UX.

· Excellent communication and leadership skills for guiding and mentoring team members.

Additional preferred qualifications include:

· Familiarity with Micro Frontend architectures.

· Experience with state management libraries (e.g., NgRx).

· Knowledge of testing frameworks (Karma, Jasmine, Jest, Cypress).

· Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.

· Understanding of performance optimization techniques.

· Experience integrating with RESTful APIs.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For Ontario, Canada, the base compensation range for this role is $125,000 CAD - $175,000 CAD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
