The Salt Lake Global Center Chief Operating Officer serves as the operational leader for one of Morgan Stanley’s most significant U.S. locations—supporting more than 1,800 employees across a diverse set of core Firm divisions that collectively contribute to the broader enterprise’s operational strength and client delivery.
Morgan Stanley is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join the Firm as Chief Operating Officer of Salt Lake Global Center (GC), responsible for developing and executing strategy, driving transformative initiatives, and governing the center via close partnerships and oversight of local business units on location.
The role is vital to building the Salt Lake GC strategy in partnership with GC head and the Senior Management Group comprising the Business Unit heads and execute the strategic agenda. The COO will hold responsibility for envisioning the future of the Salt Lake GC workforce, working closely with the Head of Workforce Strategy and, ensuring the GC has the optimal structure, governance, engagement, and culture enabling business units and their employees to be achieve business objectives and grow their careers.
The candidate will be responsible for a lean team whose overarching mission is to provide local strategy and sound governance, facilitate effective employee engagement, foster connectivity through employee networks and committees, and manage site level budgets. The team plays a key business management role - managing risk, financials, real estate requirements, training and development, external partnerships, site communications, process improvement and other ad hoc growth and project-related initiatives. In addition, the successful incumbent will be the AI evangelist for the organization, ensuring enablement, utilization, and successful realization of AI benefits.
Serving as a unifying force, the COO ensures consistent standards, operational excellence, and a strong, connected culture, reinforcing Salt Lake’s brand as a critical, integrated component of Morgan Stanley’s Global Center footprint.
What you'll do in the role:
Strategy:
- Execute site-level strategy aligning Global Centers and business priorities
- Provide GC leadership direction on centrally driven GC management priorities
- Articulate and evolve the site value proposition to attract top talent and enable realization of Firm and business unit objectives
- Utilize market intelligence and workforce insights to drive location and talent decisions
- Enable people strategy execution in collaboration with BU leaders and HR
Culture:
- Act as a culture carrier, reinforcing firm values, inclusion, and engagement across the site
- Strengthen the firm’s employer-of-choice positioning through effective internal and external engagement
- Sponsor D&I strategy, philanthropy, and community engagement, aligned with firm commitments
- Design and lead the people and executive communication strategy, fostering a connected, engaged culture across the center, creating an environment where employees can thrive and business objectives are achieved
- Ally with HR and business leaders to strengthen the talent pipeline, promote mobility and leadership development, and reinforce an inclusive culture across the center
Governance & Risk:
- Partner with Site Head to evolve the site governance framework, providing input and ensuring effective execution in established frameworks
- Enable strong cross-business leadership alignment through chairing and supporting senior management forums
- Partner with the Global Centers Risk Lead to maintain a robust risk framework enabling the timely identification, management, escalation, and governance of risks
Operational Excellence:
- Directly support Site Head in executive oversight of site operations, financial performance, and real estate capacity management
- Partner with businesses and corporate functions to optimize space, services, and operating models
- Ensure consistent execution of firmwide initiatives impacting the site (e.g., workplace strategy, technology enablement)
- Oversee successful delivery of employee productivity and experience
- Drive financial discipline within the site operating budget ensuring rigor in planning and expense management.
Transformation:
- Instill and drive an ethos of innovation across the center through tools, including but not limited to AI initiatives, boosting operational efficiency and strengthening the strategic value of the center.
- Partner with businesses to Identify scalable, cross functional initiatives that position the center at the forefront of transformation and lead the next phase of growth.
