The Supplier Quality Engineer creates value by supporting supplier quality initiatives that enable the business or function to achieve its operational and strategic supplier quality goals. This role focuses on improving supplier performance, ensuring product quality, and driving continuous improvement across the external supply base.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with critical stakeholders, including external suppliers, customers, and internal teams such as Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Engineering.
- Apply Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes, AIAG core tools , and Cummins-specific methodologies to develop and improve supplier manufacturing processes.
- Participate in external supplier audits and progressively lead low-complexity audits after certification.
- Support resolution of supplier-related quality issues through root cause analysis, corrective action development, and verification of effectiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
- Contribute to supplier quality performance planning and improvement for specific product lines or supplier segments; may lead initiatives for low-risk areas.
- Evaluate supplier manufacturing processes, product design, and validation systems to ensure reliability and compliance with customer requirements.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards such as ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949.
- Delivering Global PPAP (Level 1-4 ) and other product approval process metrics.
- Auditing of global PPAP based on guidelines.

- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and engineering drawings.
- Expertise in manufacturing process design, validation, and measurement systems.
- Problem-solving capability using structured methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, data-driven solutions).
- Knowledge of statistical tools and techniques for process improvement.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and drive quality-focused decisions.
- Experience with supplier performance improvement strategies and project execution.
- Understanding of supplier product reliability and validation processes.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and diverse environments.
Experience
- External Candidates:
- Minimal to moderate relevant work experience in quality, manufacturing, or supplier quality
- 5–9 years of experience in Manufacturing, Quality, or Supplier Quality within automotive or allied industries.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and metrology practices.
- Extensive experience with AIAG Core Tools , especially PPAP .
- Ability to interpret 2D drawings and GD&T features accurately.
- Experience validating PPAP documentation against Cummins and industry standards (material and process requirements).
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical/scientific field (required).
- May require compliance with export control or sanctions regulations.
