Firm Risk Management
Morgan Stanley's Firm Risk Management (FRM) Division is an exciting and rapidly growing space. We support Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.
Background on the Position
The role will reside within the Firm Risk Management's Risk Analytics area. Risk Analytics develops market risk analytics, credit risk analytics and scenario analytics models providing quantitative analysis on the Firm's risk exposures. By developing mathematical and statistical models, Risk Analytics calculates the risks associated with specified sets of financial positions and day-to-day operations.
Morgan Stanley is seeking a Senior AI/ML Model Developer (Vice President) in the Risk AI Application team, which is responsible for implementing Firm Risk Management's AI-strategy.
Primary Responsibilities
> Manage and mentor a small development team, providing technical direction and day-to-day support
> Lead development of Python-based AI applications, including NLP pipelines, LLM tools, and other machine learning models, used in Risk Management workflows
> Apply software engineering techniques to build efficient, reliable, and maintainable solutions
> Contribute to model and system design decisions, ensuring the solutions are technically sound and appropriate for Risk Management use cases
> Write clean, well-structured, and well-tested Python code
> Follow standard development practices such as GitHub-based version control, code reviews, unit testing, and continuous integration
> Deploy solutions to production environments, not just development or prototype settings
> Own and manage relationships with Risk Management stakeholders to understand requirements and design AI solutions that meet their needs Experience
> 5+ years of experience in AI/ML, software engineering, or related fields
> Graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline
> Strong Python programming skills, including familiarity with Git-based versioning and collaborative coding workflows
> Experience developing and deploying AI/ML or analytical solutions in production environments
> Understanding of financial concepts and products, or willingness to learn them
> Strong communication skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable skills
> Experience managing or mentoring junior developers
> Familiarity with financial models or risk analytics frameworks

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $95,000 and $165,000 year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
