As part of a formal apprenticeship or regional training program, the Product Design Technician – Level I supports the development of technical design capabilities while contributing to business needs. This role assists in learning and applying product design, modeling, and drafting standards, while independently performing assigned tasks and supporting cross-functional teams during rotational assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop foundational capability to ensure high-quality models and engineering drawings.
- Learn and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to create and maintain product specifications.
- Utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) and data management tools for configuration control and data security.
- Gain knowledge of company, industry, national, and international engineering standards and apply them in design work.
- Support processing of internal engineering work requests and documentation updates.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product design and development activities.
- Participate in structured training, apprenticeship programs, and learning sessions to build technical expertise.
- Contribute to design tasks and project deliverables during team rotations.

- Mechanical System Design Knowledge – Understanding of mechanical systems and lifecycle requirements to support robust design solutions.
- Engineering Specification Development – Ability to create detailed drawings, bills of materials, and product specifications.
- Product Configuration & Change Management – Basic understanding of configuration control, engineering change processes, and lifecycle management.

Experience
- External Candidates: Minimal or no prior work experience required.
- Internal Candidates:
- Experience in design and drafting using tools such as Creo .
- Working knowledge of PLM systems (e.g., Windchill) .
- Familiarity with product change management processes.

Education, Licenses & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent in a relevant STEM field is required.
- Must meet eligibility requirements for entry into a formal apprenticeship or training program.
- Enrollment in a regionally recognized apprenticeship or technical training program is required.
- May require compliance with export control or sanctions regulations.
(Internal Candidates)
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Typically requires 5–6 years of experience in design and drafting.
