Job Summary:

Responsible for creating and maintaining product specifications, including drawings and 3D models, for Cummins products. Ensures adherence to quality standards, configuration control, and engineering processes while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support product development and change management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, review, and maintain high-quality engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Ensure drawing and model quality through adherence to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
  • Utilize CAD data management tools to maintain configuration control and data security.
  • Apply Cummins, industry, national, and international standards to product specifications.
  • Process and support internal engineering work requests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design and release issues.
  • Participate in maintaining engineering standards, practices, and drawing quality reviews.
  • Support configuration and change management activities throughout the product lifecycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis: Create CAD models aligned with Cummins standards to support system-level analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems: Apply in-depth understanding of mechanical systems to develop robust, innovative designs across all lifecycle stages and operating environments.
  • Mechanical Design Specification: Develop complete specifications including solid models, detailed drawings, and configured engineering BOMs in line with applicable standards.
  • Product Configuration and Change Management: Manage product baselines, release and track changes, and maintain integrity of engineering artifacts from concept to obsolescence.

Education, Licenses, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent in a relevant STEM field is required.
  • Associate degree or regionally applicable certification in a relevant field may be required.
  • May require licensing to comply with export control or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • Requires relevant work experience with intermediate-level knowledge gained through education, training, or on-the-job experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills Required:-

Internal candidates will act as a Design Integrator for assigned Vehicle Product Integrations (VPIs) and will:

  • Ensure daily and weekly NPID updates and Design Integrator (DI) tracking for parts and options.
  • Support designers with Change Request (CR) writing and screening.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Designers, GPR, Global Release Team, CEs, Core Teams) for CR prioritization and processing.
  • Track DLPs, deviations, SOMODs, Option MODs, and new shop order releases.
  • Collaborate with readiness and core teams to drive robust change management and minimize deviations.
  • Participate in engineering and program forums including EIT, Program Core Team, Tech Lead meetings, Readiness Forums, and CRBs.

Knowledge Required:

  • Product release processes, IMS, CPIF, PPIF
  • Windchill, TCL plant processes
  • Option compatibility, configuration management, and change request management
  • Product lifecycle management
