Role Summary
An established people leader who typically leads a larger team of data scientists and machine learning engineers (5-10 people) and delivers work for defined domains / capability areas. Collaborates with senior management, supported by product and development partners, to deliver a portfolio of work and a high performing, well managed and talented team.

Role Expectations
• Has significant experience in at least one major ML programming language (Python, Scala…) and is familiar with others.
• Applies knowledge of software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions.
• Configures, maintains and optimizes storage and processing environments (cloud, prem, cluster management etc.).
• Experiences writing code in a way that enables efficient and accurate translation into a data pipeline.
• Has a good understanding of supervised and unsupervised machine learning theory.
• Has 2-4 years experience in industrial application of machine learning.
• Applies fundamental machine learning models, algorithms and techniques using standard libraries to tackle business problems with some guidance.
• Performs basic level of modification/adaptation to models and techniques to suit business needs.
• Iteratively identifies strong features with some mentorship.
• Spends a large amount of time and help to improve model generalization and robustness.
• Perform proper model performance evaluation without help.

• Builds end-to-end design of models based on detailed understanding of business requirements, including approach, choice of algorithm and data sources.
• Seeks relevant academic papers and experience to point out strengths and weaknesses of current models and recommends more sophisticated designs when needed.
• Displays advanced domain knowledge(i.e. travel, online retail), business acumen (understanding the underlying business objectives), and critical reasoning skills.
•Selects valid approaches, appropriate in terms of level of effort, favoring iterative delivery that solves for the objective, not the ask (i.e. not just order-taking).
• Uses advanced and sophisticated understanding of the business problem space to inform the design of the solution.
• Demonstrates a critical understanding of functional information (such as legal, data/metrics, and technical information) and accurately answers relevant questions.
• Knows and applies data visualization principles consistently to result in clear and consistent outcomes.
• Builds complex charts with limited supervision.
• Consistently uses color palettes effectively and is aware of end user fatigue.
• Creates clear and consistent visualizations with feedback from peers and stakeholders.
• Is familiar with basic UX and UI concepts.
• Possesses familiar knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
• Embeds visualization from tools utilizing basic techniques, such as iframes.
