Senior Engineering Technician

Reports To

Manager, Engineering

Position Summary

Perform a variety of maintenance, testing, and adjustment on mechanical and electronic systems and equipment. Carry out Engineering Evaluations and Troubleshooting. This position tends to closely follow established procedures and processes and is moderately supervised.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Actively participates in achieving key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Execution of, and responsibility for, preventative maintenance procedures and routines in assigned processes or area/s

  • Complete maintenance logs and reports on time and accurately.

  • Provide technical assistance to production line, both assembly and technical when required.

  • Identification of spares requirements, plus sourcing and replenishment of all equipment spares from stock in accordance with company policies

  • Complete Calibration where applicable. Assure all production equipment is up-to-date on calibration cycle and meets calibration requirements.

  • Maintenance of calibration management system and associated hardcopy and soft-data in accordance with SYK Quality Management System requirements

  • Establishment and development of calibration processes and practices

  • Training of personnel in the various calibration\certification procedures and methods

  • Work alongside Engineering Team and Suppliers to continuously improve equipment and systems.

  • Complete Engineering evaluations for all product and equipment.

  • Conduct rework and issue material requests based on Engineering Evaluation Reports.

  • Test, troubleshoot and diagnose, electronic components, sub-assemblies and instruments in accordance with approved practices and procedures.

  • Follow process documents, test procedures, and other established criteria.

  • Troubleshoot a wide variety of assemblies and interface with engineering in resolving the root cause for technical problems and defect analysis.

  • Collect, analyze, maintain and report data from production processes using proper measurement techniques and implement corrective actions

  • Use lean manufacturing strategy to drive continuous improvement for quality, efficiency, and cost reduction

  • Train and certify others to the duties and responsibilities as required

  • Prepare, organize, and document work digitally using a computer.

  • Manage individual workload by prioritizing projects with different stakeholders and timeframes.

  • Adherence to and enforcement of all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) requirements on sites, plus communication of any concerns regarding environmental impact, health, or safety issues to their manager.

Qualifications Knowledge Skills

  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in Electronics

  • 2 years of manufacturing technician experience

  • Label printer technician experience preferred

  • Knowledge of related practices, processes and procedures to operate a variety of electronic test equipment.

  • Solid troubleshooting and repair fundamentals

  • Willing to take on and familiarize with all relevant site systems as deemed necessary to complete the role.

  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.

  • Strong communication and influencing skills with both internal and external agents.

  • Capable of working as part of a multi-disciplined team in an aggressive, dynamic and results motivated environment

  • Fostering a working environment of continuous improvement

  • Capable of working autonomously

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to details and quality of workmanship.

  • Good manual dexterity, and eye/hand coordination.

  • Experience using Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).

  • Capable of training manufacturing team members


Pay rate will not be below any applicable local minimum wage rates.
