2026 Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Internship – Scoresby

  • 12-month full time undergraduate internship based in Scoresby

If you are an undergraduate Automotive, Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering student looking to jump start your career, we are offering a 12-month full time internship based at our Scoresby office . Our Scoresby office is offering rare 12-month full time Mechanical Engineering Internship opportunities for current Automotive, Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering students who are keen to utilise theoretical skills learnt in their degree and develop practical skills in the workforce.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will make an impact and gain experience in the following ways:

  • Being part of a great team of experienced engineers working with internal and external customers across multiple departments
  • Hands on experience in troubleshooting, data collection & analysis, failure investigation and root cause identification for current in service products and prototypes.
  • Preparation and presentation of information/data in engineering reports and PowerPoint to key stakeholders.
  • Exposure to drafting and CAD modelling for component design including concept generation through to physical prototyping. Producing detailed engineering drawings for supplier manufacturing.
  • Undertake project management on a variety of projects ranging from engineering change management for new and existing products to application testing.
  • Physical hands on work with Cummins products in their various applications.
  • Supporting engineering team members with testing, simulation, change management, logistics and planning for a variety of projects.

About You:

To qualify for this undergraduate internship, it is essential that you:

  • Are currently studying a degree in Automotive, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, ideally at an undergraduate level.
  • Have between 1 and 8 units of study left to complete of your undergraduate degree as of January 2026.
  • Ideally completed the penultimate year with one final year of university left before graduation.
  • Are available for the full 13 months and be willing to defer your studies for that duration.

Note: Applicants that do not meet these qualifying requirements unfortunately will not be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful in this role, you will possess skills/abilities or be able to perform:

  • Strong academic results in Mathematics; Thermodynamics; Mechanical Design; Professional Practice.
  • Drafting or CAD modelling skills (Solidworks, CREO, Inventor or AutoCAD).
  • Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Some project management skills.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong computer literacy and a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, a team work ethic and the ability to think and operate autonomously and independently when required.

This is a 12-month, full time, paid placement and the successful candidate will be required to defer their studies for the duration of the program.
