Role Overview
The Executive Director, Wealth Management Fraud Strategy & Controls is a senior leadership role within Morgan Stanley's Global Fraud Department, responsible for assessing, designing, and advancing the firm's external fraud and scam strategy across Wealth Management. This role will heavily engage in fraud risk management for Wealth Management business growth and expansion. The role partners closely with WM Technology, WM Risk, Cybersecurity, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and third party vendors to ensure fraud mitigation is embedded throughout the lifecycle of our client experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the Wealth Management external fraud and scam strategy, including identification of emerging external fraud and scam risks, managing loss and control categories, designing strategic roadmap, and prioritizing control enhancements

  • Analyze fraud incidents, trend, control effectiveness and emerging risk insights into actionable strategy and delivery plan

  • Implement the planned control enhancement through partnership with Technology, Business and Risk partners

  • Balance and manage in-house solutions and 3rd party vendor offerings in overall fraud and scam strategy

  • Close partner with Fraud Operations to execute strategy and control enhancements with full operational readiness

  • Oversee senior level reporting on fraud metrics, losses, emerging risks and threats

  • Support regulatory examinations and external engagements by articulating fraud risk management framework, controls, and governance

  • Oversee the participation of and contribution to industry fraud forums and maintain peer relationships

  • Act as a connective leader across the Fraud Department and provide coaching and mentorship to team members

  • Promote a strong fraud risk culture across Wealth Management Qualifications & Experience

Desired Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in fraud risk management, financial crime, operational risk, cybersecurity, or related control functions within a large financial institution.

  • Deep expertise in Wealth Management fraud risks and client facing platforms, with demonstrated experience owning fraud strategy and controls in a first line environment.

  • Experience leading fraud risk management for new products. Experience with digital assets fraud risk, including crypto, preferred

  • Proven ability to operate at senior management and regulatory levels, with strong executive communication skills

  • Demonstrated success leading cross functional initiatives across Technology, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Operations.

  • Bachelor's degree; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.

Salary range for the position: $175,000 and $250,000 per year. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
