Key Responsibilities:

Creates complex models and drawings and perform checking for drawings and models. Ability to perform all of the key responsibilities of Product Design Technician Level II; Ensures model and drawing quality. Creates and maintains product specifications utilizing Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing. Utilizes Computer Aided Design (CAD) data management tools for configuration control and to maintain security. Ensures application of company, industry, national, and international standards. Processes internal engineering work requests. Engages with required functional areas as needed. Participates in the maintenance of standards and practices which ensure quality. Mentors and trains less experienced Product Designers. Checks models and drawings prior to release. Creates assemblies to ensure fit to mating parts. Works with engineering to generate concept models. Participates in and/or leads Drawing Quality Reviews.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Competencies:

Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis - Creates Computer Aided Design models in accordance with Cummins' standards to represent architectural or product level system design concepts, and to enable completion of various system-level computer analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.

Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems - Acquires and applies an in-depth understanding of mechanical systems through working knowledge that guides a designer’s ability to create innovative and sound design concepts to meet Cummins and customer expectations; designs for requirements of all lifecycle stages by considering the customer requirements in different operating environments to ensure a robust system.

Mechanical Design Specification - Creates complete specifications in the form of solid models, configured engineering bill of materials and detailed drawings that cross-functionally communicate the information required to manufacture and inspect a product per its design intent; considers national, international, industry, and Cummins’ standards that accurately and concisely define the part specification.

Product Configuration and Change Management - Establishes a baseline of identified product artifacts to be placed under configuration management; releases, tracks, controls and communicates changes from concept to obsolescence often through work requests; establishes and maintains the integrity of the product artifact baselines.

Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills Required:

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings for control panels, wiring harnesses, and electrical peripherals, with application of GD&T (Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Experience in creating manufacturing drawings for components and assemblies
  • Expertise in design and development of control panels and wiring harnesses for engine and genset applications
  • Experience in drawing mark-ups, prototype build support, and coordination with suppliers for component identification and selection
  • Strong understanding of controls architecture, interface, and installation as per project design and system requirements
  • Ability to validate prototype engine/genset performance and ensure installations meet quality and design standards
  • Proven capability to resolve moderately complex technical issues across components, systems, and subsystems
  • Ability to independently execute established processes , while contributing to continuous improvement of systems and workflows
  • Experience in cross-functional coordination (CFT) and collaboration with plant teams
  • Strong team contribution and influence skills , with a focus on achieving team goals and continuously enhancing technical competencies
