DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Sales Application Engineer for our Power Generation team in Dallas-Forth Worth-North Dallas area, TX.

Job Summary:

Influences and/or creates demand and preference for the Cummins products, services, and solutions by influencing key commercial and technical stakeholders / gatekeepers through providing excellent product and system sales support.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Build and sustain long-term, cross-region strategic relationships with Key Influencer Customers (e.g., architects, design engineers, consultants, contractors, OEMs, dealers, and channel partners) to expand influence and unlock growth.
  • Earn trusted-advisor status with executive, technical, and internal leadership stakeholders by establishing credibility, aligning priorities, and strengthening partnership confidence over time.
  • Define and execute a clear influencer strategy by targeting priority firms/individuals while continuously identifying and engaging new high-potential influencers in the market.
  • Translate customer needs and regional requirements into actionable guidance by identifying Key Influencer priorities and providing expert technical support (codes, standards, product/regional application, and solution data interpretation).
  • Generate and qualify a strong pipeline of opportunities using market, competitor, and customer research—then ensuring opportunities are captured in CRM for visibility, consistency, and follow-through.
  • Convert influence into results by shaping specifications and purchasing behaviors within Key Influencer Customers, tracking outcomes to measure success, and refining the approach.
  • Enable sales execution through tight collaboration and structured handoffs —working with local selling teams and passing qualified opportunities to the appropriate Sales Manager/Sales Professional to accelerate conversion.
  • Raise the organization’s capability and market presence by improving methods/processes to solve complex issues, mentoring or leading sales personnel (as applicable), championing the voice of the customer internally, and elevating thought leadership through industry engagement (trade media, speaking, kickoff/site meetings)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate with clarity and influence across audiences , translating complex technical, commercial, and strategic information into messages that resonate with customers, sales professionals, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain a strong customer focus by deeply understanding customer needs, buying journeys, and expectations—then delivering differentiated, customercentric solutions that drive value and loyalty.
  • Plan, prioritize, and align work effectively to meet commitments, support account and territory strategies, and advance organizational goals.
  • Clearly articulate a compelling value proposition by interpreting customer applications, positioning products and solutions against competitors, and demonstrating how offerings meet specific customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial and channel acumen , including awareness of industry dynamics, routes to market, pricing strategy, and stakeholder alignment to support profitable growth.
  • Drive disciplined account, pipeline, and forecast management by evaluating opportunity health, forecasting demand based on data and trends, and adjusting strategies to ensure sales objectives are achieved.
  • Integrate customer perspective and sensemaking into decisionmaking , synthesizing insights from data, conversations, and research to develop effective account strategies and continuously improve sales effectiveness.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

University or college degree in the field of engineering, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Significant level of relevant work experience required. Experience in technical sales, application engineering or project management required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University or college degree in the field of engineering preferred.
  • 4 years and over of experience in technical sales or sales application engineering desirable.
  • Responsible for building relationships with Consulting Engineers in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and West Texas markets.
  • Clear communication with leadership, peers on the Southern Region Sales Application Engineering/Upstream Influencing Team, and the local Power Generation Sales Representatives on key projects, relationships, and sales initiatives. 
  • Project and relationship management/tracking will be documented in Salesforce. 
  • Technical aptitude to quickly ramp up on the products we are responsible for selling and supporting. 
  • Ability to execute technical presentations with external customers and internal sales teams.   

Compensation: 

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate’s qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
