Position: System Simulation Engineer – PureSim & Controls Integration (Experienced Individual Contributor)

Role Overview

This position focuses on developing, maintaining, and advancing the processes, models, and tools that support PureSim system simulation across controller, powertrain, and vehicle domains. The ideal candidate brings strong controls and system-level understanding, can guide internal users across a broad range of simulation fidelities (MIL/SIL/CyberApps/detailed models), and can support integration of Cummins controls within PureSim frameworks. The role requires technical leadership in model fidelity management, process ownership, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, own, and maintain processes and tools that enable PureSim system simulation across controller, powertrain, and vehicle domains.
  • Integrate control models of varying fidelities (CyberApps, MARCI, CSAR, SIL, and mid‑fidelity variants) into PureSim and ensure robust controller–plant interfaces.
  • Maintain and enhance simple control libraries and PureSim models used for powertrain and vehicle simulations.
  • Improve workflows for generating controller models and streamline integration processes for internal customers.
  • Support PureSim model development, validation, and analysis activities including NUD evaluations.
  • Apply system‑level knowledge of controls, powertrain, and vehicle dynamics to support detailed PureSim simulation and troubleshooting.
  • Guide internal users in applying PureSim models to program use cases, selecting appropriate fidelity levels, and resolving interface issues.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and implement emerging technologies in the system/vehicle modeling domain to advance PureSim capabilities.
  • Coordinate with component model developers to ensure clarity in requirements, dependencies, and delivery timelines.
  • Understand CyberApps control configurations and guide integration of simple CyberApps control with external powertrain/vehicle simulation tools.
  • Provide training, documentation, and technical support to global internal customers (and occasional external customers) regarding modeling workflows and simulation tool usage.
  • Communicate technical issues, model assumptions, integration details, and recommended modeling approaches to partners across Cummins organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong background in controls engineering, including fundamentals and Cummins control/system knowledge.
  • Hands‑on experience with model‑based design and simulation in MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools.
  • System‑level understanding of control‑plant interactions across MIL/SIL/CyberApps/detailed models.
  • Knowledge of powertrain systems, vehicle dynamics, or electrified powertrain modeling and simulation.
  • Ability to handle model complexity, fidelity selection, and simulation trade‑offs across program lifecycles.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder‑support skills across global teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PureSim, CyberApps, MARCI, CSAR, or similar Cummins simulation ecosystems.
  • Prior work in vehicle or powertrain system modeling, calibration, or testing.
  • Ability to independently investigate modeling needs, evaluate new technologies, and influence modeling strategy.
