DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician to join our team specializing in Engineering for Cummins in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
This is a permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday on-site.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Prepare, assemble, and dismantle test articles for evaluation, including initial build, instrumentation installation, and final teardown in accordance with engineering standards.
- Conduct detailed component analysis within the Components Service area, focusing on After‑In‑Service (AIS) warranty returns from supported Business Units.
- Screen component warranty claims using various mechanical and electronic test tools, identifying failure modes through structured parts analysis.
- Collaborate with Global technical teams to reconvey or recover tested components for detailed failure analysis and alignment of findings.
- Align failure modes with Global standards, working closely with Service Engineers, and accurately document results in internal databases such as our Customer Care Information Management Systems (CCIMS).
- Support and execute product testing following established procedures, ensuring test integrity through correct setup, proper instrumentation, and validated equipment usage.
- Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot test stands, rigs, and fixtures, performing regular upkeep to ensure test readiness and reliability.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of test equipment functionality and the operation of products under test to ensure accurate and repeatable results.
- Continuously track, review, and improve analysis processes to meet customer, quality, and efficiency expectations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Hands on experience with Cummins component products and strong familiarity with electronic and mechanical test tools used for screening component warranty claims and identifying failure modes.
- Proficiency in diagnostic and reporting tools, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), internal databases (e.g., CCIMS), and Cummins service tools such as INSITE and Calterm, along with strong capability in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to perform structured component analysis, align failure modes with Global engineering standards, and clearly document results in the required systems.
- Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences while supporting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- An action‑oriented, proactive approach bringing urgency, enthusiasm, and energy to problem solving, testing challenges, and day to day tasks.
- Technical aptitude and mechanical/electrical awareness to correctly set up, operate, and troubleshoot test stands, rigs, fixtures, and instrumentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/ Experience:
- High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
- Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
