Job Summary

This role is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing electrical and automation systems to ensure manufacturing equipment availability, reliability, and efficiency. The position involves working with PLCs, HMI, SCADA, MES integration, and advanced automation technologies while adhering to Cummins’ safety, quality, and operational standards. The role may also involve mentoring team members and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities 1. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

  • Follow all HSE policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify, report, and correct hazards, incidents, and near misses.
  • Use appropriate PPE and actively participate in safety training.
  • Promote a culture of safety, interdependence, and environmental responsibility.
  • Recognize environmental impacts and take actions to minimize risks.

2. Electrical Maintenance & Automation Controls

  • Perform electrical repairs and preventive, corrective, predictive, and emergency maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and automation issues using structured, data-driven approaches.
  • Program, test, and maintain PLC and HMI systems (Siemens TIA Portal mandatory).
  • Implement and support SCADA systems (preferably Ignition SCADA) with SQL integration.
  • Integrate control systems with MES and manufacturing databases.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot industrial devices such as sensors, actuators, scanners, drives, robots, and cobots.
  • Work with machine safety systems including Safety PLCs, relays, scanners, and guarding solutions (e.g., Pilz, Schmersal).
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and Cummins specifications.

3. Quality & Equipment Reliability

  • Apply high standards of workmanship and craftsmanship in all maintenance tasks.
  • Support equipment uptime and perform downtime/failure analysis.
  • Follow process documentation, standard work, and quality procedures.
  • Conduct inspections and escalate issues to minimize cost and quality risks.
  • Provide feedback and updates to preventive maintenance systems.

4. Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Identify and reduce manufacturing constraints to support production goals.
  • Drive automation enhancements, cost optimization, and process improvements.
  • Participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities.
  • Schedule maintenance work aligned with production requirements.
  • Support implementation of new technologies and system upgrades.

5. Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Support knowledge sharing, training, and capability development.
  • Coach or guide less experienced team members when required.
  • Actively contribute to team goals and continuous improvement initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronics, or related field.
  • Additional certifications in PLC programming, automation, or SCADA systems preferred.
  • May require compliance-related licensing (e.g., export control regulations).

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of electrical schematics and control panel layouts.
  • Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming (Siemens TIA Portal mandatory).
  • Experience with SCADA systems (Ignition preferred) and MES integration.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence)
  • Leak testing systems (ATEQ)
  • Servo systems, nutrunners, conveyors
  • Robots and cobots
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.

  • Strong troubleshooting capability for electrical and automation systems.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Data-driven decision-making approach for maintenance and process improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • Significant relevant experience in electrical maintenance and industrial automation.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing environments with PLC, SCADA, and MES systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex automation systems and equipment reliability improvement.
  • Exposure to robotics, safety systems, and industrial networks is preferred.
