Job Details

As a Cybersecurity Engineer, you’ll oversee and lead global platform infrastructure and the delivery of advanced technical solutions, with a focus on systems / engineering supporting data protection, data access security and cybersecurity platforms. You’ll drive architectural and strategic initiatives, work across teams, and help deliver scalable, secure, and innovative solutions that protect the firm and enable the business to operate and grow in a secure and legally compliant way.

You’ll join Technology & Operations Risk, a team focused on delivering first-line defences against technology, information, and cyber threats through risk identification, control management, and assurance. Within this area, the Data Protection Fleet provides a stable yet agile infrastructure platform that supports business requirements while managing risk—this role specifically leads the development and deployment of data access security tools and services, with an emphasis on automation, analytics, and integration with enterprise systems.

Since 1935, Morgan Stanley is known as a global leader in financial services, always evolving and innovating to better serve our clients and our communities in more than 40 countries around the world.

What You’ll Do in the Role

  • Lead proactively on platform reliability and security, identifying and resolving technical/security issues before they become critical; drive a strong security hygiene culture.

  • Own risk management for the environment, running regular risk assessments, identifying vulnerabilities, and partnering with Risk, Audit, and Compliance to mitigate risk.

  • Oversee change and release management, including controlled execution of releases, QA, testing processes, and continuous service improvement.

  • Drive platform/application enhancements with vendors, managing issue (bug) discovery and prioritising improvements/feature requests through to resolution.

  • Provide technical oversight and consultancy, offering architecture assurance for security initiatives, maintaining a secure/stable data asset infrastructure, and adopting monitoring/logging and strong incident response practices.

  • Deliver operational excellence, taking end-to-end problem ownership (including escalation), resolving incidents/outages, contributing to business continuity planning, and providing 24/7 production support via on-call rotation.

  • Enable teams through automation, documentation, and training, building custom tooling (e.g., PowerShell/Python), identifying automation opportunities, maintaining a central knowledge base, and creating clear guidelines/training to uplift skills globally.

What You’ll Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, in a related field or equivalent experience (advanced degree is a plus).

  • 5+ years’ experience in a systems/engineering role supporting data protection / data access security / cybersecurity platforms in a complex enterprise environment.

  • Strong Windows Server background including Active Directory, file/folder permissions, and identity/access controls.

  • Solid SQL / T-SQL skills (e.g., supporting SQL application clusters and producing/maintaining custom reports).

  • PowerShell scripting experience (required) for automation, monitoring, patching, and operational improvements; Python is a plus.

  • Familiarity with cloud and SaaS security concepts/tools (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP security services) and supporting on-prem to SaaS migrations and SaaS implementations/POCs.

  • Comfortable working in a DevOps-style team using CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions), source control (Git), and exposure to containers/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience with relevant platform technologies such as Varonis, NetApp storage monitoring, and Microsoft 365, plus willingness to join an on-call rotation (typically once per week, including weekends) and support planned changes/break-fix outside standard hours when needed.
