DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Manufacturing Engineer – Senior to join our team specializing in manufacturing for our Cummins’ business in North Charleston, SC.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

Drive Project Success

Lead end-to-end execution of manufacturing projects, ensuring safety, quality, and business objectives are consistently met.

Utilize tools like Six Sigma, Lean, and Kaizen to identify opportunities for improvement and implement sustainable solutions.

Establish Standards

Develop and enforce manufacturing standards and working methods aligned with Cummins’ global practices.

Influence Stakeholders

Communicate effectively and build strong relationships with external partners, business leaders, and cross-functional teams to align goals and priorities.

Leverage Expertise

Bring deep knowledge of manufacturing principles to guide decision-making and mentor others on best practices.

Collaborate Across Resources

Coordinate internal and external resources to deliver on complex project assignments with precision and accountability.

Coach and Develop Others

Maintain strong relationships and provide guidance to key stakeholders, fostering a culture of learning and operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Strong Technical Expertise

Ability to interpret engineering and product design drawings, select appropriate equipment, and apply manufacturing analysis tools to design optimal processes.

Commitment to Safety and Ergonomics

Champion health and safety fundamentals and apply ergonomic principles in workstation and process design to ensure a safe, injury-free workplace.

Effective Collaboration and Communication

Build partnerships across teams and communicate clearly with diverse audiences to align objectives and drive project success.

Continuous Improvement and Problem-Solving Skills

Use data-driven methodologies to identify process improvements, reduce waste, and solve complex manufacturing challenges with sustainable solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

Additional Details:

A Senior Assembly Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading the design, optimization, and continuous improvement of complex assembly processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety. They provide technical direction and mentorship to other engineers and technicians, fostering skill development across the team. This role requires close collaboration with cross‑functional groups to align materials, equipment, and scheduling while driving cost reduction and productivity initiatives. Senior engineers also play a key role in troubleshooting high‑impact issues, implementing advanced manufacturing technologies, and ensuring that assembly operations meet both short‑term production goals and long‑term strategic objectives.

To succeed in this role, the individual should hold a relevant technical degree in engineering (such as Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering) or possess equivalent industry experience that demonstrates strong technical expertise and leadership capability. Typically, 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing or assembly engineering is expected, with a proven track record of process improvement and project leadership. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and advanced CAD/CAM tools is highly valued. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as the role requires influencing across multiple teams and coaching others to achieve operational excellence.
