The Job's Mission

The Junior Financial Analyst – supports inventory-related accounting activities within the Technical Accounting Costing & UPI sub-department of the Global Inventory COE. This role assists with journal entries, account reconciliations, reporting, and analysis to ensure accurate inventory balance sheet and P&L reporting in compliance with US GAAP, SOX, and company policies.

The role is designed for an early-career accounting professional and provides hands-on exposure to inventory accounting, cost flows, and operational finance processes. Responsibilities are assigned with increasing complexity as experience and proficiency develop. The position works closely with senior analysts and managers and requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and a willingness to learn. The role provides opportunities to build knowledge of inventory accounting, cost flows, and GAAP through hands-on experience and coaching from senior team members.

This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. The position works with moderate supervision and guidance and is expected to escalate issues or questions as appropriate. A college degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is typically required, along with 1–3 years of relevant experience or equivalent internship/co-op exposure.

As a member of the Technical Accounting Global Inventory COE team, this role will help support accurate inventory balance sheet and P&L reporting in compliance with Stryker policies and procedures. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, has a foundational understanding of accounting principles, and is motivated to apply those concepts in a hands-on, operational environment.

Key Activities & Accountabilities

  • Month end activities:
    • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities related to inventory and inventory-related accounts.
    • Calculate, analyze, and reconcile inventory-related balance sheet and P&L accounts
    • Prepare and post journal entries and accruals with relevant supporting documentation in accordance with US GAAP.
    • Perform balance sheet reconciliations for inventory and Costing & UPI accounts, including gross and net balances in accordance with Stryker policies.
    • Assist with standard cost updates, variance analysis (e.g. PPV), and monitoring cost changes.
    • Support preparation of schedules and variance explanations
    • Ensure all Inventory reports generated are accurate, and reconciled to the General Ledger, including the required IPE procedures.
    • Perform ad-hoc analytical support, such as analyzing inventory trends at various data levels, testing inventory reserve levels for appropriateness
  • Compliance:
    • Junior Analyst will support where needed/applicable for Internal and External Audits (mainly SOX related)
    • Responsible for partnering with Compliance Inventory COE team and Business Support team to meet company policies.
    • Responsible for complying with Sarbanes-Oxley and all other applicable financial laws and regulations, company policies and implementing corrective actions
    • Support business on implementation and monitoring of Internal Controls and other compliance requirements.

  • Communication/Collaboration:
    • Assist in responding to close-cycle questions from FP&A, local market, and other key stakeholders.
    • Responsible for effectively communicating relevant information to all stakeholders, with main stakeholders as the internal team members within business support but also the stakeholders where the input files are received from
    • Proactively communicate changes/proposals in local business decisions or other issues that may have a financial impact and are accounting related
    • Informing and aligning with Technical Accounting team in the US with a focus on business partnering for the respective divisions
  • Continuous Improvement/Projects:
    • Maintain up-to-date process documentation that incorporate changes in the business; may require updating or creating advanced Excel formulas and/or Power Bi workspaces or reports.
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation or process improvements (e.g., RPA, Alteryx, Power BI)
    • Participate in inventory projects, system implementations, integrations and transitions.
    • Assist in building and maintaining standardized dashboards and reporting views for inventory metrics.
    • Support ad-hoc questions related to Technical Accounting for the sub department.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required
  • CPA qualification preferred
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent working knowledge of US GAAP required

Experience 

  • At least one year of experience in complex inventory and/or other complex accounting functions in a global organization is a plus.
  • ​Experience navigating and influencing in a matrix organization or working in a COE is preferred
  • Experience with complex and detailed inventory accounting is required
  • Experience working in a regulated or SOX-controlled environment is nice to have.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel (required) and Power Bi
  • ERP experience (Oracle/SAP/MFG/JDE) a plus
  • Ability to understand the “big picture” and yet able to resolve day-to-day issues if required

Compensation Grade: G9

Travel Percentage: 10%
