This is an opportunity to develop observability tools in Java with a diverse team in the Institutional Securities
Technology division of Morgan Stanley in Tokyo. The team is part of the Reliability & Production Engineering
department and creates monitoring applications and automation used by support and engineering teams globally.
Primary responsibilities are:
architecture design and core development of observability systems in Java
collaborating with development teams in other Morgan Stanley locations globally
coordinating testing and deployment to ensure reliable delivery
high-level user support for the systems developed by the team
provide guidance and feedback on the overall software development lifecycle
The role provides exposure to a wide range of business problems, and opportunities to tackle them with innovative
solutions. Tokyo is a core business location, making it possible to interact with key stakeholders, directly gather
their requirements and gather a first-person view of support teams working with the trading desks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Four-year degree from an accredited university. Study of a computer science or engineering discipline is
advantageous, but not required.
Minimum of 4 years employment in a professional software development role.
In-depth knowledge of the Java programming language is essential. This includes syntax and data structures,
object-oriented design and patterns, concurrent programming concepts, and operational considerations such as
memory management and network access.
Additional qualifications which are helpful:
practical knowledge of the Spring Framework and Gradle build system
experience creating browser-based applications using Angular
proficiency with SQL and production use of an RDBMS such as Sybase or DB2
competence using Linux, with an understanding of fundamental system concepts
hands-on usage of Git, including branching, merging and conflict resolution
