About The Role 

Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management provides highly customized financial advice, investment solutions and brokerage services to individuals, families and foundations. As Morgan Stanley’s premier service for individuals and families with significant means, we specialize in providing our clients with custom-tailored financial solutions and a level of sophistication and access to expertise and investments typically reserved for large corporations, financial institutions and governments.

Within Private Wealth Management, the Account Management Team (“AMT”) has four distinct functions:  AML Advisory, Account Onboarding, Account Maintenance and Projects.  This position lies within the Account Onboarding team who own the front-to-back process for onboarding clients and are responsible for ensuring the account opening documentation and client profile complies with the firm’s and regulatory requirements.  Our client base consists of individuals, joint account holders, personal holding companies (PHCs) and PHCs owned by Trust as well as an expanding non-traditional client base of funds, subsidiaries of listed companies , operating vehicles, etc.  The team in Hong Kong office cover mainly China and Hong Kong clients, with some Taiwan, Thailand and Philippines clients.

The ideal candidate would have experience in a similar role within the wealth management sector.


Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Perform supervisory review and sign off on onboarding requests, including checking of high-risk components
  • Ensure all onboarding submissions meet required quality standards by implementing a robust quality control framework, reviewing case submissions, and conducting targeted training for AMT members to address quality gaps
  • Act as the SME for Front Office and key stakeholders on onboarding matters, including CIP/KYC documentation, AML issues, and complex onboarding requirement
  • Enhance client experience by reducing error/rejection rates and improving turnaround time for account opening reviews
  • Act as deputy to supervise and lead the client onboarding team, overseeing hiring, training, and the ongoing performance and development of team members
  • Serve as the escalation contact for onboarding matters, delivering proactive solutions and addressing complex stakeholder queries with sound judgement and cross‑functional coordination
  • Provide strategic guidance and solutioning for complex account‑opening requirements, while enabling swift and compliant handling of time‑critical client requests
  • Prepare monthly Management Information (MI) reporting/ statistics, and monitor team performance to ensure measurable targets are attained
  • Identify and escalate any high-risk issues to GFC/Compliance/ Risk for further review and discussion; work collaboratively with the relevant teams for resolution
  • Proactively engage with Front Office to share AML/KYC guidance, reinforce best practices, and strengthen the overall quality of client due diligence
  • Coordinate responses for regulatory monitoring, internal/external audits, and testing activities
  • Represent AMT in Run‑the‑Bank and Change‑the‑Bank initiatives, including system enhancements, regulatory remediations, investigations, and regulatory inspection preparations

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS


Key Competencies/ Skills

  • Strong knowledge of client onboarding and AML/KYC regulations (local and global).
  • High attention to detail with an analytical mindset; confident working with data across multiple systems to identify inherent risks.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify AML risks and determine effective mitigation at both process and account level
  • Expert knowledge of CIP requirements, account structures of various complexity, KYC documentation, private wealth management regulatory requirements and best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self‑motivated, enthusiastic, and able to operate independently while maintaining sound judgment


Education and/or Experience:

  • Prior experience in client onboarding, AML, or Compliance within private banking or a top‑tier financial institution, with exposure to complex entity structures
  • Knowledge of account structures of various complexity, private wealth management regulatory requirements and best practices
  • Proven ability to anticipate and identify risks and implement effective mitigation measures
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple functional areas while maintaining independence
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to manage contentious AML risk discussions and guide impacted teams
  • High attention to details and an analytical mindset
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship‑management skills; able to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education or experience 
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience, including at least 2 years in a team lead or management role within financial services
