We are looking for a talented Manufacturing Engineer- Senior to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Corporate organization in North Charleston, SC .

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Champion continuous improvement by leveraging tools such as root cause analysis, Lean methodologies, and Six Sigma to reduce waste and optimize workflows.
  • Establish and refine manufacturing standards, work instructions, and operational methods to support consistency, quality, and long-term scalability.
  • Strengthen cross-functional collaboration by communicating effectively with external partners, business leaders, engineers, and functional teams to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Lead project teams and utilize internal and external resources to drive on-time, high‑quality project delivery.
  • Coach, mentor, and empower key stakeholders to build capability, reinforce best practices, and support a culture of operational excellence.
  • Influence strategic decision-making by offering advanced technical expertise and insights into manufacturing technologies, methods, and process improvements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Collaborates - Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
  • Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Health and Safety Fundamentals - Champions and models proactive health and safety behaviors by identifying, reporting and participating in actions to improve health and safety in order to build an interdependent culture and contribute to an injury-free workplace.
  • Drawing Interpretation - Integrates product design and manufacturing equipment engineering drawings to support the design and development of an optimal manufacturing process that meets product design specifications.
  • Equipment/Capital Procurement - Selects manufacturing equipment which meets the Cummins manufacturing specifications and meets the project or program needs.
  • Manufacturing Analysis Led Design - Uses digital tools to model and simulate manufacturing processes, equipment and performance to make data driven decisions before changes are made and to drive continuous improvements.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge - Demonstrates the knowledge of manufacturing by correctly implementing changes in current processes, equipment, and applications to meet the function's needs and contribute towards continuous improvement.
  • Process Documentation - Produces written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence which are followed correctly by all approved stakeholders to establish continuity in processes and standardization.
  • Tool and Fixture Design - Selects work-piece-holding devices capable of effectively holding parts and products during a manufacturing process to secure their position to meet functional requirements.
  • Values differences - Recognizing the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.
  • Continuous Process Improvement - Recognizes areas in which a process can be improved by properly implementing process improvement and waste reduction methodologies to reduce process cost and improve quality in current manufacturing processes.
  • Ergonomics Process and Workplace Design - Designs, creates or adapts processes and workstations by implementing ergonomic controls through the application of the Cummins ergonomic design guidelines to reduce risk and deliver ergonomically designed work.
  • Problem Solving - Solves problems and may mentor others on effective problem solving by using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and ensures actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.
  • Workstation Design - Designs operator work stations that are safe, healthy, and ergonomic while accounting for cost, quality, and delivery to contribute to an efficient work environment.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Engineer - Senior - supporting 3 major buckets of work:

  • Responsibility of Lambda readiness and capability on new R2R Program and Product Launches - including new Part Number validations of Lambda for HX conversions.
  • CAPEX Project Management on Lambda - all 3 zones. these projects focused on Ergo / HSE Improvements, increasing throughput, improved quality and failsafing, line uptime improvement, and reducing cycle time.
  • Maintain and support current production on Lambda Line - continuous improvement work, day to day troubleshooting on assembly line and downtime issues.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead new Program and Product R2R Launches on Lambda Line- all 3 zones and Cold Test. Managing scope of work, RFQ Process, Supplier Selection, strong definition of acceptance criteria for FAT and SAT, Supplier / Contractor Management, Line Upfit Management, and Solid validation, PPAP, and Customer / Line Release Processing.
  • CAPEX RFA Submission and Purchasing Skills - Manage RFA Submission process with Business and Financial Reviews / Justifications. Skills to use our Ariba Purchasing System. Good project tracking, invoice reconciliation, and cash flow forecast skills.
  • Work closely with NRP on Project Governess Process - Design Reviews, routine R2R Project Meetings, Product Planning, NRP Technical Team, and NRP Financial team CAPEX / R2R Planning Process on 3-5 year Planning on R2R Launch Calendar.

Utilizing the above skills for CAPEX Project Management on Lambda Line

  • Ability to learn the finer details of Lambda Line and intricacies on Lambda Zone 1 and zone 2.

Ability to help maintain and trouble shoot various technologies on Lambda Line - tooling and fixturing, vision and laser systems, Robots / Cobots - HCST and Cold Test, learning IPV's and Testing, Controls. Host, and Script Management.

Abilities to flex schedule for Project Work and Line Upfits - due to line availability, this work typically happens on weekends and during Holiday Outages.

All other assigned work supporting Lambda Line.
