We are seeking someone to join our team as an Associate to work as part of the Morgan Stanley Inclusive & Sustainable Ventures Group which helps to run the Morgan Stanley Inclusive & Sustainable Ventures (MSISV). MSISV provides early-stage innovators with access to capital and resources to help them develop and scale. MSISV's mission is to catalyze innovation and impact by supporting early-stage startups and nonprofits that are building solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable future.

In the Global Sustainability Office (“GSO”) department, we aim to drive the growth of sustainable investing through ongoing development of products and solutions, economic analysis, thought leadership and capacity building initiatives. Within GSO, the Inclusive Ventures

What you’ll do in the role:

  • Interact and provide strategic support on a day-to-day basis to the MSISV companies and program alumni.
  • Assist the broader team, including Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs), in providing critical operational, analytical and strategic insights to help accelerate the growth of MSISV companies.
  • Facilitate calls and introductions between MSISV companies, external parties and senior employees from around the firm.
  • Assist the broader team in planning, coordinating and executing on the 5-month in-house accelerator program.
  • Participate in the identification, investment memo creation and selection of the companies that will participate in the accelerator program, including assisting in the performance of financial due diligence, market research, competitive analysis, identifying market/investment trends and analyzing products.
  • Actively engage in the venture ecosystem to source and identify investment opportunities. Actively build and maintain relationships within venture capital peers to share market insights and potential investment opportunities.
  • Synthesize analyses into meaningful deliverables/presentations for senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Create standard and custom executive reporting packages/ presentations on a monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc basis.
  • Provide support to senior management in broadening Morgan Stanley's founder community engagement and venture capital universe coverage.
     

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • 1-3+ years experience working with financial services or early-stage companies
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a fundamental understanding of corporate finance principles including financial modelling.
  • Proactive self-starter and creative problem solver with a keen interest in impact sectors, venture capital investing and startup operations.
  • Strong interest in technology, startups, entrepreneurship, and venture capital.
  • Very high attention to detail is critical in addition to sound judgment and the ability to fully operate with general to limited context.
  • Strong written, communication and presentation skills in English.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Knowledge of impact investing/sustainable sector helpful but not required.
  • Experience creating investment memos or evaluating companies for investment helpful but not required.
  • The ideal candidate has a fundamental knowledge of financial analysis including company valuation and investment analysis; experience and/or interest in venture capital investing; start-up operations; and can manage large, multidimensional projects.
