The Institutional Securities Group (ISG) has established an ISG Data Group (IDG) to provide a single point of accountability for the full spectrum of data related initiatives. This ranges from the defensive risk reduction aspects of data security (both internal and external), through operational effectiveness from improving data quality, to helping enhancing revenue through further leveraging our data assets for providing services to our clients.
The position available is a Vice President‑level role within IDG, serving as a lead for Information Security oversight within ISG. The role is responsible for the execution and supervision of business‑as‑usual (BAU) information security controls, management of data protection programs, and coordination of ISG’s response to cybersecurity incidents.
The individual will act as a key information security representative for ISG, partnering closely with senior stakeholders across the businesses and Firm functions, including Technology Operational Risk (TOR), Cyber, the Firmwide Data Office (FDO), and other control and risk teams. Responsibilities include exercising oversight of onshore and offshore teams performing BAU security activities, ensuring ISG’s data protection controls are operating effectively, and that risks are identified, escalated, and remediated in line with Firm standards.
The role supports the execution of the ISG data protections and cyber strategy by ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, internal policies, and Firmwide control requirements. In addition, the individual is expected to coordinate and support responses to cybersecurity incidents, provide oversight during incident remediation, and contribute to critical cyber initiatives that defend and protect ISG and its businesses.
Responsibilities Include:
Supporting the onshore and offshore teams responsible for BAU controls for Information Security, Identity and Access Management, Data Loss Prevention, Entitlements and Data while looking for opportunities to improve and monitor existing informational security controls
Manage the ISG Data Security Risk Execution Program
Collaborating with ISG Business Control Unit (BCU), ISG Tech Leads / desk heads, TOR and the FDO the implementation of cataloging and other key controls such as encryption and retention
Supporting ISG incident response, exercise execution and tracking, and third party management
Assisting the ISG Business Unit Information Security Officer by managing the Risk Acceptance process
Identifying opportunities for process efficiencies and implementing corresponding solutions within the team as well as teams external to IDG
Maintaining relationships and working closely with IDG supervisors, Business Control Units Cyber, Firmwide Data Office, Technology, Legal and Compliance
Experience / Skills Required:
7+ years of experience in financial services risk management and/or information security
Proven ability to take ideas forward and to challenge others with integrity and maturity
Team player who can effectively collaborate across diverse teams.
Strong project management skills and proven ability to move projects through to completion in a complex environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills by clearly articulating objectives, requirements, risks and issues and interacting with Senior Management and clients.
Strong motivation and a self-starter with a positive outlook and desire to solve problems with an ability to work independently with minimal guidance
Strong analytical skills with an ability to understand complex workflows and leverage Excel, PPT, Project, Visio, etc.
Ability to identify and escalate issues effectively and appropriately
Exceptional organizational skills and a high degree of attention to detail
Ability to discuss in-depth technology initiatives and ability to work closely with technology teams
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and effective manner and thrive in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with cybersecurity programs and/or information security programs in highly regulated industries and/or critical infrastructure firms

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $140,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
