In the Legal & Compliance division, we assist the Firm in achieving its business objectives by facilitating and overseeing the Firm’s management of legal, regulatory and franchise risk. This is a Director‑level position within the Communications Monitoring Compliance team, which provides second‑line oversight of the Firm’s electronic communications supervision program for compliance purposes.

Since 1935, Morgan Stanley is known as a global leader in financial services, always evolving and innovating to better serve our clients and our communities in more than 40 countries around the world.

What you’ll do in the role:

The suitable candidate will play an advanced execution and coordination role within the APAC Electronic Communications Surveillance program, taking ownership of defined surveillance workstreams, governance deliverables, and stakeholder engagement. You are expected to exercise sound judgment on routine issues, proactively identifying risks, and escalating material matters appropriately.

Surveillance Oversight & Judgment

  • Oversee execution of surveillance activities across email, messaging platforms, voice recording, and other Firm‑approved tools.

  • Review and handle surveillance escalations for completeness, quality, and consistency.

  • Serve as a senior escalation point for routine surveillance matters before further escalation.

Governance & Control Ownership

  • Own specific governance deliverables (e.g., scope definitions, in‑scope population reviews, escalation models).

  • Drive preparation of materials for governance forums and ensure actions are tracked to completion.

  • Identify gaps between regional practices and global expectations and propose remediation actions.

Issue Management & Audit Readiness

  • Coordinate responses to audit and risk reviews, including issue analysis and remediation tracking.

  • Ensure surveillance artifacts and documentation are regulator‑ready and defensible.

  • Monitor progress of remediation actions and escalate slippage proactively.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a primary point of contact for stakeholders on defined surveillance topics.

  • Provide guidance on surveillance scope, lexicon updates, and governance expectations.

  • Support cross‑regional initiatives and represent APAC in working‑level discussions.

Reporting & Thematic Analysis

  • Prepare surveillance metrics, summaries, and thematic observations for senior review.

  • Highlight emerging risks or trends and recommend follow‑up actions.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • 5+ years in Compliance, Surveillance, Operational Risk, or related control roles.

  • Demonstrated ability to run workstreams independently and manage stakeholder expectations.

  • Strong judgment, issue‑spotting capability, and confidence engaging with senior counterparts.

  • Owns defined outcomes

  • Exercises judgment independently

  • Proactively identifies issues

  • Escalates strategically, not tactically
