Java Lead Software Engineer_ Vice President _Software Engineering 

We’re seeking someone to join our Cyber Data Risk & Resilience tech team as a Principal Java Engineer, in Cyber Technology to manage, develop and design the Java Application with good exposure on Java, springboot, microservices, HTTP, Authentication, LDAP and system designing. Also, have experience in AI/LLMs/AgenticAI.

The Cybersecurity organization's mission is to create an agile, adaptable organization with the skills and expertise needed to defend against increasingly sophisticated adversaries. This will be achieved by maintaining sound capabilities to identify and protect our assets, proactively assessing threats and vulnerabilities and detecting events, ensuring resiliency through our ability to respond to and recover from incidents and building awareness and increase vigilance while continually developing our cyber workforce.

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Principal Software Engineer position at Vice President Level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintains software solutions that support business needs.

What you’ll do in the role:

  • You will maintain, Develop, test, support, and enhance a legacy Java-based application running in production.

  • Within squad you will handle various development, engineering, and operational tasks, ranging from bug fixes, automation, DevOps tasks, and supporting on-call rotation.

  • Working with the squad & wider Technology stakeholders, you will support the continuous improvement of our services through development, automation, and effective observability solutions.

  • Enforce adherence to architectural standards/principles, global product-specific guidelines, usability design standards, etc.

  • Working with Technology teams, you will develop new integrations, plugins, and onboard new tools to support business needs and integrate with the Morgan Stanley ecosystem.

  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and various Agile ceremonies to help us produce the best product possible.

  • You will deliver knowledge sharing and participate in cross-pollination of good practices and standards across squad & Data Protection Services department, providing documentation and presentations.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • 12+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Springboot, Microservices.

  • Should have experience in GenAI/Agentic AI/LLMs.

  • Strong object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts to design robust and scalable software solutions.

  • Leverage expertise in Spring and Spring Security to build secure and efficient applications.

  • Strong data security principles to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Solid understanding of HTTP/REST, TLS/SSL, authentication & authorization concepts.

  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across logs, thread dumps, and network traces.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) with the ability to convey outcomes to a wide audience.

  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.

  • Knowledge of LDAP, JDBC, relational databases (Sybase, Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL).

  • Drive architecture and design decisions; review critical code, designs, and production changes.

  • Coach engineers through technical challenges, production incidents, and career progression.

  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Understanding Perl Programming.

  • Experience with observability tooling (Splunk, ELK, Grafana, Prometheus).

  • Experience with cybersecurity practices, such as encryption at rest and in transit, secret management, and public key infrastructure.

  • Java certifications like OCJP, Java Web Component Developer

  • At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.
