Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (“OCIO”) group partners with Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors across all channels to offer full discretion portfolio management services to institutional and private clients (e.g., Defined Benefit plans, Endowments, Foundations, Ultra-High Net-Worth, Family Offices, etc.) of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Institutional Product Manager to join our OCIO (Outsourced Chief Investment Officer) Investment Team. The ideal candidate will possess strong stakeholder and project management skills, with a proven track record in the institutional investment marketplace. This role requires a deep understanding of various institutional investment products and the ability to navigate complex processes involving investment due diligence, product structuring, and cataloguing.

The successful candidate will work closely with manager research, legal, risk, compliance, and wealth management product teams to ensure the successful delivery of investment solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Stakeholder and Project Management

  • Lead and manage multi-stage processes, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

  • Coordinate with manager research, legal, risk, compliance, and wealth management product teams to align on product development and implementation strategies

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution and delivery

Management & Leadership

  • Demonstrate strong leadership and team management skills

  • Manage a due diligence team focused on institutional investment research

Investment Due Diligence and Product Structuring

  • Conduct initial investment due diligence to assess the viability and potential of various institutional investment products

  • Structure and define accessible institutional investment products, including Collective Investment Trusts (CITs), Separate Accounts, Limited Partnerships (LPs), and custom accounts to meet institutional client needs

  • Ensure all institutional products are catalogued accurately and updated regularly to reflect changes in the product details including dealing terms, fees, minimums, etc.

Ongoing Diligence and Monitoring

  • Ensure formal oversight on ongoing investment and operational diligence and monitoring of approved institutional product offerings

  • Provide regular, detailed reporting of qualitative and quantitative analysis for approved institutional products

Negotiation and Coordination

  • Negotiate terms and conditions of institutional investment products in coordination with legal, risk, and compliance teams

  • Ensure all agreements and contracts are compliant with legal and regulatory standards through collaboration with operations and risk partners

Market and Product Knowledge

  • Demonstrate broad product knowledge across various investment types, including CITs, Separate Accounts, and LPs

  • Stay informed about market trends and developments to provide insights and recommendations for product innovation and enhancement

Database and Tool Utilization

  • Utilize investment manager databases and tools such as eVestment and Morningstar to support product sourcing and decision-making processes

  • Analyze data to identify opportunities for product enhancements/expansion

  • Work with stakeholders to enhance product database and user experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. An advanced degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CFA, CAIA) is preferred

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in the institutional investment marketplace, with a focus on product management and development

  • Demonstrated experience in an investment due diligence function across multiple asset classes is preferred

  • Strong understanding of institutional investment products, including CITs, Separate Accounts, and LPs

  • Proven experience in stakeholder and project management, with the ability to lead complex projects and manage multiple priorities

  • Excellent negotiation skills and experience working with legal, risk, and compliance teams

  • Proficiency in using investment manager databases and tools such as eVestment and Morningstar

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders

  • Proactive and hard working with strong professional accountability

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and/or quantitative skills

  • Must be very detail-oriented with an ability to multi-task

  • FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses required or willingness to obtain within 120 days of hire

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 160,000 and 270,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
