Job Summary:
Performs skilled non production activities independently which support the manufacturing processes in accordance with quality and productivity requirements safely in a manufacturing environment and may instruct or coach others.

Value Package Introduction (VPI) Technician – Job Description
Position Summary
A Value Package Introduction (VPI) Technician supports the launch of new or updated products into manufacturing by performing build activities, validating processes, collecting data, and ensuring that production readiness meets engineering and quality standards. The role bridges manufacturing, engineering, quality, and supply chain to ensure smooth product introduction with minimal disruption.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prototype & Pilot Build Support
- Execute assembly, teardown, and validation builds for new products or product upgrades.
- Identify build issues, fit-up problems, and process gaps during prototype or pilot runs.
- Document build observations and communicate feedback to engineering and program teams.
2. Process & Documentation Readiness
- Review and verify work instructions, torque specs, tooling requirements, and BOM accuracy.
- Support creation or updates of standard work, operator instructions, and quality checks.
- Ensure that workstations, tooling, gauges, and safety procedures are prepared for launch.
3. Data Collection & Reporting
- Capture production data such as cycle time, torque readings, defect types, and process performance.
- Provide structured feedback on manufacturability (DFM), line flow, and ergonomic issues.
- Support root cause analysis for issues identified during early builds (5-Why, fishbone, etc.).
4. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with manufacturing engineers, product engineers, quality, supply chain, and launch teams.
- Participate in program reviews, PFMEA discussions, and readiness walk-throughs.
- Assist in verifying supplier-provided components for form, fit, and function.
5. Tooling, Fixtures, and Equipment Support
- Validate that tooling, fixtures, and measurement devices function correctly for new products.
- Escalate issues and assist with adjustments, redesigns, or repairs.
- Confirm calibration and readiness of inspection or assembly tools.
6. Quality & Compliance
- Support initial capability studies and quality checks for new components.
- Verify that quality standards, control plans, and inspection points are met.
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements, process controls, and traceability systems (e.g., MES).
7. Readiness for Production Launch
- Transition learnings from prototype builds into production-ready processes.
- Support trial runs and ramp-up activities to ensure line stability.
- Help train operators or provide knowledge transfer when needed.
