DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Engine Workshop Technician – Level III to join our team specializing in Service for our Cummins Inc. facility in Auburn Hills, MI

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Deliver high‑quality engine troubleshooting, repairs, and rebuilds independently, ensuring fast turnaround times and improved equipment reliability.
  • Elevate team capability by coaching and developing junior technicians, sharing expertise, and reviewing repair plans to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strengthen service quality by applying documented diagnostic procedures and policies consistently, reducing rework and enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Prevent costly breakdowns by performing thorough preventative maintenance based on accurate assessments of engine condition.
  • Maintain full compliance and transparency by completing all required documentation—work orders, time sheets, warranty claims, and quality forms—accurately and on time.
  • Stay aligned with business needs by completing required technical training and applying new skills directly to daily repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Contribute to a safe, organized, and efficient workshop by maintaining clean work areas, properly functioning tools, and professional standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to and reinforcing Health, Safety & Environmental policies and promptly reporting any risks or incidents.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Communicate with clarity and adaptability by using multi‑mode communication—verbal, written, digital—to ensure technicians, customers, and supervisors all receive information in the way that best fits their needs.
  • Build strong customer relationships by actively listening to concerns, translating complaints into accurate diagnostic plans, and delivering solutions that improve reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and uplift others by coaching junior technicians and apprentices, sharing troubleshooting methods, reviewing their repair plans, and helping them grow toward both career and organizational goals.
  • Invest in your own development by proactively seeking training, certifications, and hands-on learning opportunities that expand your technical capabilities and keep you aligned with evolving business requirements.
  • Adapt effectively to changing situations by adjusting your approach in real time—whether dealing with complex diagnostics, shifting priorities in the shop, customer needs, or unexpected repair challenges.
  • Champion health and safety through consistent compliance, proactive hazard identification, timely incident reporting, and role-modeling safety behaviors to help maintain an injury-free and interdependent safety culture.
  • Apply diagnostics and electronic service tools with precision by using documented workflows, specialized mechanical/electronic tools, and diagnostic software to isolate issues, validate repairs, and document findings clearly in business systems.
  • Demonstrate deep technical proficiency by understanding engine systems interactions, performing high-quality repairs and preventative maintenance, using proper tools, following guidelines, minimizing cost of ownership for customers, and ensuring accurate, timely service documentation and escalation when needed.

Education:

  • Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent / preferred vocational training from trade school
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
  • Willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • State of Michigan Certifications Required

Experience:

  • Advanced level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products 
  • Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred)

QUALIFICATIONS

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Collecting engine data to diagnose engine issues using Calterm or CDA software on Stellantis Heavy Duty trucks.
  2. Work daily with customers or engineering groups to understand the issue and determine root cause.
  3. Perform vehicle / engine repairs that are needed.
  4. Driving customer vehicles to collect data or transporting from one location to another

Education:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent / preferred vocational training from trade school
  2. Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
  3. Willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  4. State of Michigan Certifications Required
