We are looking for a talented Test Technology IT Senior Engineer to join our team specialising in Test Engineering for our Darlington Technical Operations (DTO) in Darlington, United Kingdom.
This is a permanent onsite role with flexible hours 8.30am to 4.30pm – 9.00am to 5.00pm
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Act as a key technical partner to test engineers and test operatives, ensuring test IT and controls issues in engine and Powertrain facilities are resolved quickly and effectively.
- Keep test cells running reliably by diagnosing and resolving issues across AVL engine and Powertrain test system setups, including software, hardware, and test sequences.
- Improve test efficiency and data integrity by methodically identifying symptoms, defining clear problem statements, and driving robust root‑cause solutions.
- Ensure high‑quality, trusted test data by operating, calibrating, and maintaining instrumentation and data acquisition systems to approved standards.
- Design, develop, and document data acquisition and test systems that meet evolving test requirements and customer needs.
- Support safe, compliant testing by interpreting test plans, configuring test setups correctly, and adhering to health, safety, and quality procedures.
- Strengthen cross‑functional collaboration by clearly communicating technical information to engineers, operatives, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by leading or participating in improvement projects, mentoring others, and adapting to changing test and business needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
- Strong hands‑on experience with AVL engine and/or Powertrain test systems, including troubleshooting of test sequences, instrumentation, and hardware.
- A solid understanding of how test cell software, controls, and hardware interfaces communicate, with working knowledge of networking concepts such as CAN.
- A structured, analytical approach to problem solving, with the ability to manage complex information and make sound technical decisions.
- Clear and adaptable communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and audiences.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience in a relevant STEM field is required.
- Significant relevant work experience or specialised skills gained through education, training, or on‑the‑job experience in instrumentation, test systems, or data acquisition environments.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
The compensation for this role is aligned with a local bargained or unionised agreement.
