Job Summary

Under minimal supervision and in accordance with Cummins Delegation of Authority Policy, the Material Planner determines the quantity and order dates for materials required to meet the Master Production Schedule or independent customer demand. The role is responsible for initiating, expediting, and managing purchase or production orders to ensure material availability while optimizing inventory levels and supporting end customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

  • Report any work-related injury, illness, incident, or hazard.
  • Comply with all HSE standards, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Actively participate in HSE training and initiatives.

Quality

  • Follow applicable standard work, process documentation, and quality procedures.
  • Perform quality checks on material planning master data (lead times, order quantities, etc.).
  • Support Plan for Every Part (PFEP) processes to ensure data accuracy and effective planning.
  • Partner with Quality teams to disposition non-conforming materials in a timely manner.

Delivery & Materials Planning

  • Initiate and manage purchase and work orders aligned with the demand plan.
  • Participate in allocation calls with Sourcing Managers, suppliers, and Cummins entities to manage constraints.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to reduce lead times and optimize order quantities while balancing supply and demand.
  • Reposition excess inventory across locations to support demand requirements.
  • Provide timely and accurate updates on inventory availability and back-order recovery plans.
  • Manage part change requests, engineering changes, and ramp-up/ramp-down activities while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Reconcile order boards for critical suppliers, parts, and overdue orders on a routine basis.
  • Support supplier improvement initiatives to enhance performance metrics.
  • Document, communicate, and follow up on actions impacting plan execution.
  • Take ownership and accountability for supplier schedules to meet end-customer needs.

Teamwork & Continuous Improvement

  • Communicate effectively within the team and cross-functionally.
  • Participate in quality, safety, process, and material flow improvement projects.
  • Complete required training and pursue professional development aligned with business goals.
  • Remain flexible and support additional duties as required to meet business objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
  • May require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience Required

  • Significant relevant work experience or specialized skills in:
  • Materials Planning
  • Production Scheduling
  • Manufacturing
  • Inventory Control
  • Experience in supply chain planning within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to balance supply and demand while minimizing inventory risks.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of Material Planning concepts and processes .
  • Working knowledge of Oracle ERP or equivalent materials planning systems.
  • Proficiency in materials planning system utilization and exception management.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Plan for Every Part (PFEP)
  • Master Supply Scheduling
  • Part Change Control Management
  • Materials KPI Management
  • Ability to use analytical and ad-hoc tools (Excel, Access, TOAD, OMS, etc.) for problem-solving.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively in the EMEA shift .
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage complexity and high data volumes.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a results-driven approach.
  • Ability to optimize work processes and support continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and values differences.
