DESCRIPTION
The Junior Shop Manager – Central Facility supports the operation, maintenance, and reliability of central utility and facility systems. As part of a formal apprenticeship or regional training program, this role works under moderate supervision to assist experienced team members while developing technical skills in facility utilities, HVAC, and mechanical systems. The position ensures safe, efficient, and uninterrupted utility operations through preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance, while adhering to Cummins safety, quality, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities 1. Facility Equipment Maintenance
- Support uninterrupted operation of central utilities including air compressors, HVAC systems, CNG, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, PAC units, fire hydrant systems, water distribution networks, fuel supply systems, and related equipment.
- Respond to breakdowns and perform corrective maintenance to restore system functionality and reliability.
- Assist in maintaining facility infrastructure and utility assets in line with operational requirements.
2. Diagnostics, Repairs & Preventive Maintenance
- Diagnose malfunctions in mechanical, electrical, and utility systems using appropriate tools and test equipment.
- Perform routine, preventive, and predictive maintenance activities as per OEM recommendations and internal schedules.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and support implementation of corrective and preventive action plans.
- Follow approved startup, shutdown, and maintenance procedures and checklists.
3. Safety, Compliance & Workplace Standards
- Demonstrate safe work practices in all daily activities.
- Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) for assigned tasks.
- Ensure compliance with Cummins safety policies, statutory requirements, and site-specific standards.
- Maintain 5S and housekeeping standards across utility and facility areas.
- Work safely in varied environmental conditions, including confined spaces, moisture, and extreme temperatures.
4. Software & Data Management
- Use maintenance management systems such as Maximo to log, track, assign, and close maintenance activities.
- Operate and monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) for facility utilities.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
5. Inventory Management & Procurement Support
- Support management of spare parts, consumables, and maintenance materials.
- Assist procurement activities to ensure timely availability of critical spares and services.
- Monitor usage trends to support inventory optimization.
6. Contractor & Team Coordination
- Supervise and guide contractors to ensure compliance with Cummins safety, quality, and technical standards.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to support shop operations, maintenance activities, and improvement projects.
- Participate in TBWS initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
7. Learning & Development
- Attend mandatory technical training programs, both onsite and offsite.
- Build technical competency to meet apprenticeship, regional certification, or role-specific requirements.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques individually and in team environments.

Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of industrial utility systems, including HVAC, air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, CNG systems, water distribution, fuel systems, and fire protection systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and utility equipment.
- Knowledge of facility operations and maintenance practices.

Experience
- 8–10 years of relevant experience in facility utilities, industrial equipment maintenance, HVAC, mechanical systems, or facility engineering.
- Hands-on experience in utility operations and facility maintenance environments.
- Experience using maintenance management systems (Maximo preferred) and Building Management Systems (BMS).
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to work rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Comfortable working in varied and challenging environmental conditions.

Education
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
- High School Diploma or equivalent secondary education certification.
- Must meet eligibility criteria for apprenticeship or regional training programs and successfully pass associated assessments.
Licenses / Certifications
- Completion of required internal and external Cummins training programs.
- Additional certifications in HVAC, utility operations, or safety are preferred.
