Secure Mission Solutions (SMS) is seeking an on-site Senior Principal Software Engineer with an active/current DoD Secret security clearance to join a highly accomplished, multi-discipline organization responsible for developing software solutions for RTX products. This position supports the Trusted Mission Processing (TMP) product area within the Mission Systems strategic business unit of Collins Aerospace, an RTX business. TMP provides secured processing platforms and capabilities to both domestic and international customers. This specific position will provide software architecture and expert technical leadership for the Common Open Secure Mission Computing (COSMC) product line software development team. This will include architectural oversight of new program adaptations as well as ongoing IRAD development.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record developing and augmenting software architectures to meet technical requirements of the product while balancing system level objectives, program costs, and schedule constraints.
What You Will Do
You will support product area proposal efforts by defining concept architectures and/or derivatives, customizing architecture plans for new programs, and extending existing architectures for new requirements.
You must be able to effectively communicate the software architecture approach, constraints, and rationale to varied audiences including multiple levels of management and customers.
You will oversee the development team(s) for product line architecture implementation, integration, verification, and delivery.
You will provide mentoring/coaching to the team by leveraging from your own hands-on experience with developing, enhancing, and delivering robust embedded software solutions to meet open system design objectives and technical performance measures.
You will have the ability to create an architectural vision and successfully lead a team in its implementation.
You will have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
You will have strong cross-discipline collaboration skills
You will have the ability to provide technical mentoring and coaching to software development team
You will have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
You will have the ability to document and effectively communicate approach, constraints, design, and rationale to various audiences.
You will have the ability to multi-task and work individual development tasks on a part-time basis as needed to help the team meet development goals
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years real-time embedded software development experience
Strong understanding of Open Standards such as FACE and OMS
Experience with different processor architectures including Intel, PowerPC, ARM
Prior experience designing, developing and integrating airborne mission application, infrastructure and test software for a product line of embedded software products
Experience with a variety of messaging and communication protocols.
Product Owner experience leading an Agile development team including backlog creation, organization, prioritization, management, capability verification, and overall product performance ownership.
Red Hat Linux Operating System development experience
Proficient C++ Object-Oriented development
Advanced programming (ie, multi-threading, shared memory, device drivers, linked lists, etc.)
Solid understanding of modern interfaces: Ethernet, PCIe, and other types of network protocols
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
Active and transferable U.S. government issued DoD Secret Security Clearance required prior to start date. Must have the ability to obtain Top Secret and required program SAR clearance. (Desired: Last clearance investigation should be 6 years or less).
U.S. Citizenship is required as this position will require the ability to access U.S. only data systems, and only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
