DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented School to Work – Test Engineer student to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI .

For a School To Work candidate to work in the Product Validation Lab Team, it would be desirable for the individual to have an interest in mechanical systems such as automotive vehicles and/or automotive components . In addition, having a functional knowledge of Microsoft office computer software systems is beneficial. The candidate is self-motivated, can follow instructions and can complete routine assignments with limited supervision and should have reasonable written and verbal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The School To Work candidate’s function would be to work with one of the Test Engineers to shadow them and learn about how particular automotive components function and how they are tested. They would participate in kick-off meetings for new test requests to see how the interaction goes between product engineering, product validation testing and program management. Eventually, the candidate would be trained to a level where the candidate would be able to program and set-up the controller to tune a PID loop, create an MPT program for the test loading parameters, define and enable load and displacement limits, and verify physical test setup parameters. Once the test begins, the candidate will monitor the test progress and will provide a daily update, via e-mail, to our internal customers as well as acting as an interface between the product validation team and product engineering.

Education :

• Must be at least 16 years of age.

• Current Enrollment : You must be a current student in high school or in a college/university pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Participate in kick-off meetings for new test requests to see how the interaction goes between product engineering, product validation testing and program management.
  • Monitor the test progress and provide a daily update to the internal customers.
  • Function as an interface between the product validation team and product engineering.
  • Work safely in compliance with Cummins safety guidelines (Safety training to be provided before working in the test labs).
  • Maintain orderly work area in accordance with Cummins standards.
  • Support the lab technicians with test and setup information.
  • Maintain test logbook information throughout the test.
  • Write abstract test report information at the end of test.
