DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

As part of a structured training and development program, the Apprentice learns and develops required skills in a manufacturing environment under direct guidance. The role involves completing defined classroom training and a minimum number of on-the-job training hours while learning to work safely with electricity, robotics, and other industrial energy sources and equipment.

Key Responsibilities Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

  • Stop work and immediately report any major injury hazards.
  • Report all work-related injuries, illnesses, incidents, and hazards.
  • Comply with Cummins HSE standards, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Promote an interdependent safety culture by looking out for others.
  • Correct hazards within scope of control and capability.
  • Recognize environmental impacts of work and minimize negative effects.
  • Participate in required HSE training and follow safe work protocols when working with electrical and robotic systems.

Quality & Technical Learning

  • Learn and apply high standards of workmanship and craftsmanship.
  • Perform supervised work using diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, and specifications.
  • Support equipment uptime and downtime failure analysis.
  • Follow all process documentation and quality procedures.
  • Perform quality inspections and raise issues to minimize cost and quality risks.
  • Provide feedback into the Preventive Maintenance (PM) system.

Delivery, Maintenance & Operations

  • Progress through the program of study to build skills and knowledge required to meet job qualifications.
  • Complete all required on-the-job training hours and document learning progress.
  • Assist with preventive, corrective, predictive, and emergency maintenance activities within capability.
  • Repair and maintain robotic and manufacturing equipment under supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including routine housekeeping and machine cleaning tasks.

Continuous Improvement & Teamwork

  • Work with peers and support teams to identify and reduce manufacturing constraints.
  • Participate in problem-solving and process improvement activities.
  • Actively engage with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) teams to improve safety, quality, process efficiency, material flow, and employee development.
  • Communicate effectively with assigned teams and support functions.
  • Complete training and personal development aligned with business requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in robot teaching and programming is preferred.
  • Exposure to robotic welding systems, preferably Yaskawa and ABB robots.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T, fixtures, robot functionality, and manufacturing documentation.

Education, Licenses & Certifications

  • This position may require licensing or authorization for compliance with export control or sanctions regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills & Experience

  • Foundational knowledge of robotic welding and robot programming concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic safety controls.
  • Strong learning orientation with the ability to adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills in a manufacturing environment.

Experience

  • Minimal or no prior work experience required as this is a training/apprentice role.
