Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.
Background on the Position
Morgan Stanley seeks an Executive Director level candidate to join the Firm's Risk Identification program. The Risk Identification program at Morgan Stanley monitors risk trends across all risk types and businesses and informs the Firm's risk management and capital planning processes. This role involves leading the central coordination team for risk identification process that works with business units and control groups across the Firm and LEs. This position offers opportunities to gain exposure to all aspects of risk management and capital planning.
Primary Responsibilities
> Lead a central coordination team which is responsible for the execution of the quarterly risk identification process
> Implement standards for the Firm's Risk Identification Framework and ongoing enhancements
> Work with stakeholders across Lines of Business, Risk Management and Finance to develop, maintain and update the risk inventory
> Monitor risk trends across all risk types and businesses, recognize and review new or emerging risks and analyze linkages between risks
> Inform the Firm's capital planning process and other stress testing regimes by evaluating the Firm's risk profile in the context of potential stress
> Coordinate ongoing enhancements to the Risk Identification Framework including improvements to underlying technology
> Manage governance of the risk identification process, including execution of review and challenge processes, leading a dedicated governance committee
> Produce documentation and presentations to effectively communicate key information to senior management and regulators
> Maintain risk identification procedures and ensure adequate controls are performed across scenario development process
> Ensure adherence to regulatory guidance and best practices
Experience
> Familiarity with risk identification and stress testing at a large bank preferred
> Proven leadership abilities and relationship building skills
> Attention to detail and ability to prioritize projects and workload
> Experience working under pressure and performing to tight deadlines
> Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $165,000 and $275,000 year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
