Introduction to team

We provision, secure, and operate Kubernetes clusters and workloads across all supported compute zones (AWS and existing data centers), covering deployment, connectivity, observability, and lifecycle management so product teams don’t have to own infrastructure complexity themselves.

As stewards of Expedia’s runtime ecosystem, our mission is to empower engineering teams to remove friction, improve reliability and performance, optimize cost, and deliver a first-class developer experience that accelerates how quickly ideas become customer-facing travel experiences at global scale.

  • Maintain core cloud platform components such as Karpenter, Crossplane, and ArgoCD.

  • Observability, system and service performance analysis and tuning

  • Automation of application deployments, detect and repair problems in deployments by improving CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and internal developer tooling such as Backstage to streamline service lifecycle management.

  • Support DevOps operations and debugging production and pre-production environments

  • Ability to explore/use a wide variety of technologies and tools

  • Take ownership of high stress scenarios by remaining calm, employing critical thinking and data driven decision-making practices

  • Conduct on-call duties and be a part of the rotation

  • 5+ years of experience (or 3+ with a Master’s degree) building and operating cloud-native production systems at scale.

    • Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS or equivalent)

    • Service mesh and traffic management (Istio)

    • Cloud platform tools (Karpenter, Crossplane)

    • Core networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing)

  • Practical experience with at least one major public cloud platform (AWS preferred), including multi-AZ deployments, IAM, secrets management, and security best practices.

  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of production services or platforms, including design, deployment, monitoring, on-call participation, incident response, and performance optimization.
