Introduction to the team

Expedia Group’s Edge & API Platform is redefining how to provide a secure, scalable, high-availability traffic management layer for EG that enables global traveler and partner experiences. Our Gateway Foundations team is building and maintaining the foundational tools, libraries, and Java frameworks for building web applications to enable developers at EG effortlessly leverage the full capabilities of application gateways without deep platform expertise, friction, or delays.

This is a backend-focused role ideal for engineers who love working deeply in JVM technologies, designing robust APIs, and automating everything that slows developers down. You’ll join a senior, collaborative team that values autonomy, curiosity, and a “Go Get What’s Next” mindset. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes initiative, and is excited to shape the future of platform engineering.

In this role, you will

• Design and develop APIs for cross-business use.

• Select appropriate technologies and frameworks to solve business needs.

• Design moderately complex systems and understand interactions across applications, databases, and platforms.

• Effectively apply knowledge of software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions.

• Apply advanced engineering principles to improve existing systems.

• Test, monitor, and debug code at the project level using appropriate tools.

• Identify inefficiencies in code or systems and recommend improvements.

• Participate in code reviews and clarify code evolution.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop solutions and share knowledge through communities of practice.

• Stay current with emerging technologies and continually expand technical expertise.

• Mentor junior engineers and lead complex, well-defined projects.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience OR Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.

• Strong understanding of JVM frameworks

• Proficiency in Java/Kotlin

• Strong understanding of different API services and their types

• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting multiple production software projects.

• Strong understanding of software frameworks, databases, and database design principles.

• Skilled in designing testable and observable software.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in AI protocols (MCP, A2A)

• Experience in applied AI

• Experience in frameworks like Springboot, Dropwizard and other JVM frameworks
