We are looking for a talented Electronic Braking System (EBS), Engineering Advisor to join our team specializing in Engineering in Troy, MI.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Product Failure Mode Avoidance: Develop a keen eye for identifying potential failure modes and their causes. This involves understanding interfaces, functions, and control factors to enhance product reliability.
- Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis: Utilize computational tools to predict and analyze product capabilities. Your insights will be crucial in making informed design decisions.
- Product Interface Management and Integration: Manage and analyze system interfaces to ensure they meet requirements. Create integration plans to streamline the process of diagnosing and correcting issues.
- Product Problem Solving: Implement a structured problem-solving approach to protect customers and prevent recurrence. Focus on data-driven solutions and identifying root causes.
- Product Verification and Validation Management: Develop comprehensive validation plans to manage product risk. Evaluate test results to verify product capabilities and guide project scope.
- System Requirements Engineering: Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements. Track these requirements throughout the lifecycle and assess the impact of changes on project scope and resources.
- Systems Thinking: Define and analyze the system of interest, understanding its context and interactions. Use models and methods to predict behavior and devise modifications for desired outcomes.
- Design and Application of Open/Closed Loop Controls: Specify and understand control system architectures and their interactions with hardware and software to achieve desired system states.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
- Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
- Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering role on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Overview
This position will be part of the Advanced Engineering & Innovation Group within the Cummins Drivetrain & Braking System division. The primary focus will be on leading systems engineering activities for the development and application of Electronic Braking Systems used on Commercial Vehicle Braking Systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads Systems Engineering for Electronic Braking Systems (EBS). This will include capture stakeholder requirements (regulatory, customer and internal), and translate it into verifiable requirements for Systems, Sub-systems, and mechatronic work products, to which designs are developed.
- Identifies system components and their influencing parameters such as sensor signals in close cooperation with system architects.
- Leads system identification activity and work with Controls Engineers to setup system simulation models for Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Hill Assist, brake distribution, and other features from EBS (Electronic Braking System)
- Leads system risk assessment activities such as Design Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), etc.
- Leads braking system vehicle System Integration
- Leads internal and customer vehicle test validation in test tracks.
- Leads and mentor less experience engineers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or any related engineering field. Master’s Degree in Engineering is highly desired.
- 15+ years of experience working with Braking Systems, including ABS and EBS.
- Previous experience as a Principal Engineer or Chief Engineer.
- Strong understanding of ABS, ESC/ESP, Traction Control System / Anti-Slip Regulation (TCS/ASR), Hill Assist, brake distribution, and other features of EBS (Electronic Braking System)
- Good knowledge of Pneumatic and Electro-Pneumatic Valves, braking system performance, and its influence in vehicle dynamics behavior.
- Solid prior working experience as a systems engineer, including utilization of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools for requirements creation and management (e.g. Polarion, Doors or PTC Integrity).
- Experience with vehicle network topology (CAN, LIN, ethernet, etc) and Electrical & Electronic (E&E) architecture.
- Good knowledge in sensor, signal processing and data analysis.
- Demonstrated capability of independent development of a system both in a prototype stage, as well as for production.
