Job Details

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities.

This is a Data & Analytics Engineering Lead position at Director level, which is part of the job family responsible for providing specialist data analysis and expertise that drives decision-making and business insights as well as crafting data pipelines, implementing data models, and optimizing data processes for improved data accuracy and accessibility, including applying machine learning and AI-based techniques.

Since 1935, Morgan Stanley is known as a global leader in financial services, always evolving and innovating to better serve our clients and our communities in more than 40 countries around the world.

Role Overview

The Knowledge Access Team delivers firmwide knowledge platforms that enable Morgan Stanley employees to create, organize, govern, and discover information. This role is focused on owning and managing Confluence-related requirements across multiple departments, ensuring the platform evolves in line with business needs, operational standards, and emerging GenAI-enabled knowledge discovery.

The Knowledge Access Engineer will act as a platform owner and delivery lead for Confluence and adjacent knowledge systems (including Stack Overflow for Enterprise), coordinating vendor-led and internal changes, driving controlled deployments, and ensuring the platform’s content remains high-quality, governed, and AI-ready.

A major focus will be enabling and operationalizing ROVO agents, Confluence MCP, and Stack Overflow MCP, and integrating these capabilities with broader GenAI ecosystems used within the firm, while maintaining strong controls around content hygiene, access, and governance.

Key Responsibilities

1) Confluence Platform Ownership – North America

Act as the main contact for Confluence requirements across departments in North America. Transform user needs into platform improvements such as workflows, templates, permissions, taxonomy, space structure, automation, and integration. Standardize spaces for better usability and consistency.

2) Vendor Coordination & Change Delivery

Coordinate with Atlassian and Stack Overflow vendors to manage platform changes, including roadmap, releases, validation, and deployment. Oversee all change phases (intake, build, test, rollout, support). Implement repeatable release processes.

3) GenAI Enablement

Drive the adoption of ROVO agents for knowledge workflows, MCP capabilities, and integration between MCP endpoints and internal GenAI systems. Collaborate with engineering and governance to ensure secure, auditable GenAI features. Enhance AI-readiness through metadata, organization, and content quality.

4) Content Hygiene & Governance

Run content hygiene programs to manage stale, duplicate, and broken links. Set and enforce governance standards for ownership, permissions, sharing, labeling, templates, and reviews. Adapt governance to GenAI trends, including eligibility, sensitive data, storage, traceability, and compliance. Track outcomes with dashboards.

5) Operational Excellence & Support

Provide L2/L3 operational support for Confluence and knowledge tools: incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term fixes. Build automation and self-service for reliability. Develop documentation and onboarding guides.

Qualifications (Must Have)

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years’ experience in Knowledge Platform Management (e.g., Confluence, Stack Overflow or other SaaS products) with a focus on engineering, backend development, and scalable automation.

  • Proven experience in Backend Development and Automation using Python, specifically in building robust integrations that consume and orchestrate external API endpoints.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-department requirements and deliver platform changes within a controlled, high-compliance enterprise environment.

  • Hands-on experience developing operational tooling and middleware to extend platform capabilities beyond "out-of-the-box" features.

  • Strong technical understanding of Platform Governance: programmatic management of permissions, content lifecycle automation, and compliance-driven data structures.

  • Experience working in Agile delivery models and utilizing Jira/Confluence for end-to-end delivery execution.

Preferred Qualifications (Good to Have)

  • Experience coordinating with SaaS/platform vendors (roadmaps, support escalations, releases, SLAs).

  • Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and integrating tool endpoints into AI assistants/workflows.

  • Experience enabling or operationalizing enterprise GenAI use cases (retrieval, summarization, semantic search, metadata enrichment).

  • Knowledge of identity and access concepts (LDAP/AD), APIs, audit logging, and enterprise security controls.

  • Exposure to search/discovery platforms and content analytics (usage metrics, search quality, governance reporting).
